  • I think I might get a job at a Boy Scout summer camp soon. If I do, I'll be working for 9 weeks from June to August.

During this time period, I'll probably have little to no access to the Internet most of the time. I'll also have to stay away from video games for that period.

It'll be a great experience though, for we'll be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the camp and 100 years of Scouting.

I've worked at the camp before for the past 3 years, but the 2009 season ended with tragedy. I hope I can pull myself together this coming summer...

  • hmm sounds interesting. no internet is.........bad but otherwise sounds good for you.

    Everybody dance now

  • Ah, I haven't disappeared on you guys, I've just been studying for/taking midterms. I'll be back soon to post more frequently.

  • Well I got a job with the Census.  I'm being relocated to Key West for the next 6-8 weeks or so.  They're putting me up in a nice hotel and I get per diem as well as mileage reimbursements!  Though things are pretty hectic down there for the next couple of weeks due to spring break.  Really, that'll be the hardest part of my stay there; to avoid partying too hard.  The locals are laidback people, there's very little violent crime, and even the poorer areas aren't too bad so I should be fine.  I was there the past week but had to comeback to Miami yesterday (and leave later today) as I was ill-prepared for a stay past the week.  I hate having to drive there (or back) though.  It may be only three hours (each way) but there's only one or two lanes the entire way (there's only 1 road to get in by ground), the road is in poor condition, the speed limit wildly fluctuates, and there's a lot of segments where one is unable to pull over since there's ongoing construction at the moment.

  • I didn't know there was any other use for per diem besides partying haha. How good is the per diem for where you are going?

  • 71 bones a day.  Also, the per diem is actually separate from gas, that's reimbursed into my paycheck and there is a rate of fifty cents per mile on gas reimbursements.  Our supervisor was bitching at us that we make more money than him since he doesn't get per diem (he's a local).  The Census was desperate in getting people to go to the Florida Keys, it's far and a lot of people didn't want to leave their familes.  When I was offered it, I said yes as soon as they mentioned "We're going to cover your hotel in Key West...", lol.  They even gave me a room with 2 queen beds! They figure since people didn't want to go there alone, to give people rooms with multiple beds so they can bring friends/family/significant other(s).  It makes sense, in my training class (20 or so) there were only 4 or 5 people in my age range.  Everyone else was a fat middle aged woman.  Nearly the entire training group was coming from outside of the Keys, few locals were hired it seems.

  • I got promoted last month(verizon) so i get an extra 80 cents an hour. Thats not bad i guess, it's better than a buddy of mine who got 20 cents! lol. March 8th, i bought a house for myself, fiance' and daughter. It's got a pretty big yard for my 2 loving gernam shepard puppies. All in all things are going good. I'm getting married in june so i'm sure that will change! lol

  • On the way home from band practice today I was driving behind a couple of guys both wearing hoodies with the hoods up.  From the back they looked like yard gnomes, then when I got along side while passing them they looked like jawas.

  • Just had a job interview at GameStop on Saturday.  I think it went pretty well.  It was a group interview and I was up against two girls  (that in itself damages my chances), as well as the other groups that had been interview before mine and after.

Either way, like I said, I think it went pretty well.  I'm friends with everyone that works there, and I know a few of them were rooting for me.  One of them came up and fixed my tie, checked the collar,  made sure I was looking spiffy, and another was giving me tips on what to say or not say.  It was pretty funny.  Now I wait for about 2 weeks before I get a call.  I'll keep checking in every few days, just to make sure.

  • My first blog about Afghanistan is up.

  • Just got married yesterday. We've been together for 4 and a half years so far and have two kids together a boy and a girl.

  • The wheels of my life appear to be moving slowly forward.  I've got my first middle school practicum next week, bringing me one step closer to actually becoming qualified at my nascent choice of career.  Grad school, however, is constantly threatening to kick my ass.

This spring break's been pretty fun, though.  Two of my friends and I basically holed up in my living room for three and a half days playing Final Fantasy XIII.  We subsisted on sandwiches, burritos, and McDonalds, and we are all probably worse off for it.  But FFXIII is so cool, who cares?

  • What'd you decide on for your focus, Dav?  I really need to go back and get a post-grad degree.  No one really gives a crap about a Bachelor's degree anymore.  I came into work this morning to find an email from my boss telling me that he wanted me to spend 3 hours of my day for the next 3 weeks punching holes in about 3,000 files.  FML.  The *** didn't even have the decency to tell me to my face.

  • I'm getting my Master's in Education with a recommendation in Social Studies, specifically the High School level.  In order to be certified, though, I also need to do some time in a middle school, so I'm getting that done now.
