The lights are on
I was like "Whoaaaaaa" ugly. At first GI had soldout or something and someone took the name over. I see there are a ton of new people....do not see any of the old. Why was the forum changed from simple to ugly and cheap looking? I understand adding new features but it looks pretty cluttered and uneventful. Then again I came here less and less because only like 10 people only talked here. When did this change happen? It feels like I popped my head in here about a month a few weeks ago and everything was normal....
Anyways....glad there are more people....
This happened on October 1st. There's a few new folks around who are pretty cool, and a few of the old members left because they couldn't stand the new forum layout. The new site is still in beta, so I imagine the forums will get a face lift before all is said and done.
I wanted to join in the past, but I kept having trouble logging in. I even emailed GI staff but no response. So I gave up, that was a year ago. But then I got issue 199 and they stated they redid everything so I figured I'd give it another go so here I am.
I agree though, I don't like this forum design. I find it more like a blogging social net work and to me that's not a forum. But I'm here now so I guess it's just something we have to deal with.
I also tried using the site a while ago, but no one even used it. Now I think it's pretty good. But the site could still use more people and some tweaks.
If you post it, they will troll.
Actually alot of the old member's are still around. Some of them just changed name's.
Everything is different, but it's not all that bad. The site's still in beta so they'll probably change the lay-out. There are alot of new member's just learning the rope's, but most of them are pretty cool. The mod's are working on the clutter, and some of the "old GIO" member's are helping out as much as we can.
I'm sure by the time everything's finished we'll like this site just as much as our old one. We just have to be a little patient. :)

Yeah, the Forums are quite different now. There's still some clutter and duplicate threads going on, but it's a lot better than the first month after the re-launch. I think things are getting more organized as we move along. A lot of the old crew is still around. As Lunar said, a lot of us changed our screen names. Check out this thread; a lot of us posted our old names in here. Also, if you hover your cursor over the member's avatar or name, you can see their old name in the address at the bottom of your screen (unless they changed that too.)
Personally I miss the old Forums sometimes, but I like the new site a lot. Maybe you'll start to like it more if you give it some time. There's much more customization in your Profile; there's a lot more social kind of stuff, with blogs being one of the big new things. As dbull said, it's still in beta too.

In any case, I'll use this to dump my 10 cents:
I'm going to renew, but at first I wasn't going to. I HATE the new magazine layout with a passion. Same with the new site layout (yeah I used it, even if I hadn't re-joined in ages)
Furthermore, gotta say I was surprised by the devils advocate feature..am I the ONLY one who noticed that? Do I get a no-prize? Because seriously, its wierd how it sometimes replaces the second opinion..though I see how its meant to show the bad side of a game at least..I still hate the new website and magazine layouts. They suck. Hard. They need to go back to the simple and easy to read ways, not this ugly bs that is both in the new magazine version and the site.
I didn't stay a subscriber since december of 2002 all the way until today (and thinking of renewing anyways I guess) just to see it go through a third layout. The first one was okay, the second one rocked..this third one sucks..royally.

We all miss them Blade. We all miss them. Chanting "it's still in beta, it's still in beta, it's still in beta" is the only comfort us veteran members have. I only pray the real deal is as easy to navigate as the days of old.
That pic definitely brings back some nice memories.
