  • Over the past decade Mixed Martial Arts as a sport has absolutely blown up. So, those of you who watch religiously, have a passing interest, or are looking for more information on the sport, this thread is for you.

That said, this thread is for debate about rankings, who you would like to see fight, who your favorite fighters are and what your favorite match is.

For me I am a fan of Marcus Davis. The guy is a tough as nails scrapper, and is willing to put on a great fight, no matter who the opponent is. He also is a humble guy and not too cocky for his own good.

  • I could watch/talk about MMA all day long. I truly love it.

There was FINALLY a good fight on the Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights!

Marcus Jones nearly ripped Mike Wessel's arm off. The fight only lasted about 30 seconds, Jones attempted a kimura, mike rolled over and gave marcus his back, marcus started working a rear naked choke, Mike turned over out of that and Marcus got him in an armbar and mike had to verbally tap. I hope Marcus Jones wins the whole thing. He is humble and a good dude and he has some insane BJJ.

anyway, my favorite fighters are Keith Jardine, Wanderlei Silva and Frank Mir. I tend to root for the wrestling and jiu jitsu guy but Jardine just has an awesome style. I want to see a rematch between him and Silva.

  • Ha, Jardine with the angry monkey style, I can dig it. Although I couldn't stand listening to Rashad's commentary during Jardine and Rampage's fight. I mean you would have though Jardine and Rashad were life partners not training partners.

I have to agree about TUF this season. I really haven't been impressed by anyone except Marcus. The guy who beat Kimbo is just a fat piece of fat that laid on top of him the entire time.

  • Fedor is just a beast. You can't give that guy even the slightest opening or else good night.

  • yes i was so impressed by Marcus Jones! that armbar cam out of nowhere!! i hate to say it but he is going to win the show.

  • Tonight's Strikeforce card was rather refreshing, especially after the last few UFC cards having been a mixed bag.

I was rooting for Rogers simply because I cannot stand Fedor fanboys and I want to see them meltdown.  At least Rogers justified his top 10 ranking and answered some questions about his takedown defense and ground game.  I like his potential, he needs to be join a top-tier camp asap.

  • Oh *** we had a belt change hands in UFC 112!  Spoilers since the ppv is airing in a few hours:

Edgar clearly outworked BJ Penn.  Penn for whatever reason didn't even try to take it to the ground and all he did on the stand up was counter.  He looked very sluggish.  BJ's first lost at 155 since 2002!

  • *** yes.

  • So did anyone see the atrocity that was the end of the Strikeforce card last night? Absolutely made me sick. Can't believe these people even bother calling themselves mixed martial artists. Just a bunch of brainless thugs.

This might very well have set MMA back years in public opinion. And then to have the announcers try to justify it. An absolute joke.

For those of you who didn't see:

  • That brawl was actually the most entertaining part of the card, the card was as atrocious as UFC 112.  WEC 48 is all that can save this month.

  • Tonight the Brett Favre of MMA has fallen.  A myth shattered, an aura of invinsibilty dissipated, a legacy diminished, skepticism validated.  Werdum tapped Fedor.

  • Rofl. Nothing more to say.

  • God, I love it. Chael Sonnen came to within 2 minutes of winning the title only to tapout. Normally, I'd be pissed to see Silva slip away like that after losing the first 4 rounds, but Sonnen is a ***. Most notably, he claimed in an interview this week that Lance Armstrong gave himself cancer. Just the type of psycho babble I'd like to hear from a guy running for a seat in Congress.....

Congrats on a good fight and tapping like a b*tch Chael, you *** d-bag.

  • Excluding Jon "the decisioning cure of insomnia" Fitch, that was possibly the best UFC card I've ever seen.  Sonnen vs Anderson is right there with Korean Zombie vs Leonard Garcia for fight of the year.  I was absolutely stunned throughout the first three rounds at the thorough beating Anderson took.  Hell round 1 and 2 could've been 10-8 rounds for Sonnen.  The beginning of the 4th when they started brawling was unreal since Anderson had NEVER been forced to strike so wildly.  Seeing Anderson get rocked repeatedly was unreal.  That fight was like a Ferrari getting run over by a Super Duty truck but still managing to start-up somehow and out race it.  I didn't have a rooting interest since Sonnen is a troll outside the octagon but Anderson is a troll in it.

I'm very interested to see who Anderson faces next.  Vitor Belfort is a rampaging tornado with his fists (when healthy and mentally on) and a bjj black belt that could give Anderson a lot of trouble.  Sonnen came so close but his weak sub defense came to bite him yet again and a lot of people want a rematch.  Maybe Dana might be inclined to do the super fight with GSP (once he beats Josh Doucheck) since Dana didn't want GSP embarassed but last night's Anderson would've lost to GSP.

  • Chael Sonnen failed his post fight drug test at UFC 117. Indications are that he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. Looks like he can kiss a rematch against Anderson goodbye. What a tool.....
