Pokemon Silver is one of my favorite games of all time, let alone Pocket Monsters. It is simply amazing. While I do like the later games, I honestly think Pokemon Silver (Or Gold) is the best Pokemon experience there is. Not only did it include 101 new creatures, but also added plenty of new features, like color, something Red and Blue lacked. But lets get into the specifics, shall we?
I love the Pokemon in Johto, where this Game Boy Color classic takes place. I adore all 101 Pokemon introduced, compared to the 150 I loved back in good ol' Kanto (Does anyone like Jynx?) The starters, while they don't compare to the originals, are still awesome, and many fan favorites like Houndoom, Skarmory, Amphoros, and my favorite, Lugia, were brought into the fold.
The areas are also much better then Kanto's. While many locations still hold a place in my heart, such as Lavender Town and Mt. Moon, once you beat the local gym/quest, your done there. On the other hand, there are a lot more things to do per city in Silver. Trying to evolve your precious Crobat? Get a haircut in Goldenrod City. Need a move deleted? Come on over to Blackthorne. Even the caves are better, as in Union cave, on Fridays after beating Marty, you can get an awesome Laparas. While I like the towns in Yellow, these are simply, better, in my opinion.
There are also many minor inclusions to Silver, Gold, and Crystal. The game now can keep track of the day of the week, as well as time, leading to an impressive for its time day and night cycle. Two new types, steel and dark, were also added, as well as new friendship evolutions. Eggs were also introduced. While it did not leave as much of an impact in Silver, when the meta game came along, it was legendary.
There is one moment that makes the second generation stand out; the legendary battle between you and Pokemon Trainer Red, the hero of Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. He has the most highest leveled team in all of the Pokemon games, with Pikachu, Laparas, Snorlax, Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard. His Pocket Monsters are in there 70's, and you need to make the best of your team to vanquish this powerful trainer. And when you land that final hit, well, it makes you smile.
Tomorrow is the grand finale of 31/31, and I hope you've enjoyed what I've written so far. I already have writing ideas, such as a wish list for a certain game, among much, much more in store for you guys. Tomorrow's game actually made me cry, and guess what? It was not made by Team Ico. Anyways, see you banditos/amigos/ogimas/other tomorrow, alrighty everyone?
