Too many games, not enough time! I've had to be pickier and pickier about what I play.

If you read Kotaku, perhaps you remember an article (I think they reprinted it from elsewhere) written by a man (his name escapes me) who seriously proposed that the game industry simply not release any games for an entire year. And a lot of people agreed with him too: "We need more time to play all these great games that are already out!" they said. That's how I feel. Just give me a year, please. Take the time to polish up all those games you're working on, and I promise to buy them as soon as I've caught up on my backlog.

On the topic of Achievements: I try not to let them control my enjoyment of a game. When I played Batman: Arkham Asylum (which was my personal GotY) I didn't look at the Achievements on purpose, and let them be pleasant surprises along the way. Once I finished, then I took some time to go after the more appealing ones. I can remember being pretty annoyed to find it impossible to destroy all the Joker teeth because I was going back for them too late.

So basically, if it's not the only reason I'm playing the game, I like Achievements. It's when I realize I'm not having fun anymore that I draw the line.

Granted I hardly ever play the Wii a few games that I have played are Zelda: Twilight Princess (because I like the Zelda series), Smash Bros (because its a fun with friends), and Mario Galaxy 1+2. Other than that I spend most of the time on my Playstation 3 because its just got a better selection for my tastes. I picked up my Playstation 3 around the same time that you did (when the price dropped to 299) because I felt it was a lot more affordable and there were a lot of great games that I could play (including free multiplayer) which sounded like a pretty good deal for me. So far I haven't regretted the choice. I really don't make a big deal out of Trophies I usually play a game once and pick up whatever I get and that's that. Occasionally though I might try to get some extra trophies if I see something that looks particularly interesting. Now that Sony has added 3D support to the PS3 also I am looking into possibly checking it out. The Xbox 360 does have some good exclusives as well, however, I didn't feel like spending extra money for an Elite (+internet) just to play maybe 3 - 5 good exclusive games. If the rumored 360 slim is announced featuring a decent hard drive and a good price then I will consider.

It used to be that the first thing I did before buying a new game was to look at reviews; ask friends opinions. Now I look online to see the achievement's the game has and how difficult they might be. That right their is jacked up. Even with the new game in hand, I don't start playing right away or even read the manual; I check the dashboard and read every single achievement so that I know what I need to work for while playing.

I hardly use our PS3 for gaming, though we do use it as a Blu-Ray player and there are some PS3 exclusives that I love (Uncharted, Infamous) that make it worth it occasionally.

I haven't bought a Wii, mainly because we don't really have room in the living room for the motion aspect of it, and because none of the games are really that interesting to me. But you never know. Maybe one day.

re: The WiiS360, in retropsect

I have this problem every generation. I had an Xbox and a Gamecube. I played 4 games on my Cube, and rarely. I had a dozen games for Xbox that I played ALL the time. I loved Smash Bros and Mario Kart. But the cube just didn't get enough good games to keep me.

Now I have an XBOX 36 and a Wii. The gamerscore crack keeps me from ever playing single player on Wii. It's purely a party toy now. Unless we have company, it gets completely ignored.

Hopefully in the next gen I will learn my lesson.

Right now, I'm going to write about Web Development - specifically geared toward JavaScript at the moment.

GI encourages you to write about anything with your blog, it doesn't have to be about games - besides, GI will have played any game I'd write about, before I could even buy the game; so I don't see the point of doing that (personally). A lot of coders are gamers, so this is geared toward that crowd. That's all.
