The lights are on

Well, it seemed like only three days ago was 2012, it was one heck of a year for us gamers. We had the sequels we all know and love, with a few new games along the way. Nintendo released a new system, as did Sony; but today, I'm going to talk about the games. Games of the year to be exact...
Best Shooter: Halo 4
Everyone was worried when Bungie gave the rights to Halo to 343, but those fears were answered in the form of a fantastic game. We finally get to be Master Chief again; but this time, it felt different. It was a more personal story between John and Cortana, and one I won't soon forget.
Runner up, but not even close: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Best Action: Assassin's Creed 3
For the first time we get to see what really happened during the Revolutionary War, through the eyes of a Native American/English assassin named Connor. Despite all of the claims that glitches ran rampant throughout the game, I never encountered any of them. Even still, this is a great title, and one that cannot be missed.
Runner up: Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Best RPG: Mass Effect 3
The epic conclusion to the Star-Trek-like Mass Effect series was an amazing game. I never personally owned this game, but I have played it enough to know it is one of the best RPGs of the year.
Runner up: Borderlands 2
Best Strategy: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
XCOM: EU not only surprised me with how good of a strategy game it is, but got me into it like no other type from this genre has before. The perma-death is reason enough to try to not die, so is the rewarding level up system. The story is also interesting.
Runner up: ... I can't think of any other....
Best downloadable: Journey
All I can say is... beautiful...
Runner up: Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
Best Handheld Exclusive: Gravity Rush
One of the quirkiest titles of the year, Gravity Rush is also one of the best. With a brand new way of navigation, a girl named Kat must save her new home from being torn apart by the mysterious Nevi monsters. This game was so unique that it had me going for hours upon hours. I'm on my second playthrough as of now.
And now... For my... 2012... game of the year....
IS.... IS.... THE WALKI- Wait what? Heck no.
It really is.... IS... Gravity Rush!
Like I said before, it is just so unique. I have never played a game like it. If you own a Vita, or are debating whether or not you should buy one... Buy one. This alone, is the reason.*
Runner up: Halo 4
So, did you enjoy this list? I hope so. Thanks for reading and comment below! :)
