The lights are on
Veteran Member - Level 13
To be honest, I don't really have a clue how to define this series. A weekly series, that much is going to be obvious. But, that comes to the essential question. What exactly do I hope to accomplish with this series? What all to include? How far do I delve into community interaction? However this may be posited, there's one ideal at the core of it all. A sort of summary of community happenings and the things every member should be aware of. Things of interest, challenges, member features, whatever I feel should be brought into the limelight. So, without further ado, welcome to the first installment of the community corner.
First of all, the co-blogging challenge was a great success. In lieu of major advancements from the WGWC, the bloggers here seem to be eager to latch on to a new challenge and transcend their blogging comfort zone into something else great. So, I have another one for any brave souls who wish to partake in a blogging challenge. Grab a partner (not the same one you had for the coblogging challenge), and review something. Games, movies, music, your bowel movement in August (hi Phlakes!), whatever strikes your fancy. I'll highlight these in the next CC next Sunday. As for the recap for last week's blogging challenge, Blaze is currently working on it. So, grab a new partner and go find something to review!
Game Informer Online Welcome Group:
Just a reminder that this group is still here, full of friendly people willing to offer a hand to the questions of older members and newer members alike, as well as extending a welcoming hand to newbies just now cutting their teeth in the community. You can find it here, feel free to join and invite anyone to it you think would be interested in getting to know the GIO community a little bit better.
Game Informer Online Skype Chatroom:
Fancy a text chat with fellow Game Informer Online community members? There's a chatroom set up on Skype modded by me, Blaze6106, Chris Mrkvicka, GoldvsSilver, and Mojomonkey12. If you wish to be added, feel free to shoot me a conversation on GIO with your Skype username. The only rules are remain respectful and keep language, vulgarity, and trolling down to a minimum, the mods are happy with their banhammers...
A large collection of Game Informer Online community members is working together to collect money in an effort to help out sick children through Children's Miracle Network hospitals. There's already well over $1000 raised, and 41 members, as well as prizes donated from everyone from Noobtubin8er to Take Two and Double Fine. Sign up here and join the group here: if you want to help make a difference in a gamer oriented charity.
GaMe Weekly Event:
Euphoric Ennui and DJH pioneered a weekly challenge where you must write a game fanfiction with a specific GIO community member as a primary character with a bunch of their likes and interests fused in. It takes a bit to explain, so here's the link to all the information you need regarding Gamify Me: GaMe
GIO Fanfiction Group:
Blaze6106 asked me to promote a group he runs, a group consolidating all the fanfiction writers of GIO into one convenient place to discuss this pastime with fellow fanfiction writers. If you have any interest in writing, reading, or even providing support to further fanfic writing join the group in the link here.
Member Feature Of The Week:
This isn't really a prestigious honor or anything to be put here, but nonetheless in the Community Corner I'd like to highlight members that should be on everyone's radar, whether they're already affluent or not. For my first week, there's no one better than Saint. The man is a blogging machine, coming out with one high quality blog after another. It also doesn't hurt that he is responsible for Blog Herding (he reads EVERY blog) and he's also a pretty good guy to talk to. Follow him on Twitter (@shutupandcolor) or drop by his profile and peruse his list of over 600 blogs.
Once again, not trying to take anything away from blog herding, but I merely wish to call your attention to my personal favorite blog each week. This week goes to Anticitizen-One's excellent piece called "The Will To Act" which is a thorough culmination of everything that Batman and Bruce Wayne IS. As everyone is aware I am a total fanboy for Anti's blogs, and this is an exemplary reason why.
ART! ART! ART!:
If I can even find enough people around here who do regular art, I want this to be a recurring section of the CC. The spot this week goes to Deckard, who crafted a breathtaking drawing of Sean Connery for a commission. What makes it shocking is that he isn't even totally happy with it! See above to find out why he's worrying for nothing.
Four members of GIO are currently going through the 31/31 challenge (a blog a day for a month). Jolt the Cynic, Le Hannibal, Chris Mrkvicka, and Benderstrike are all closing in to the home stretch of their series. Keep an eye open in the blogging section for them, and give them support by reading and commenting.
We need an official logo for the GIO Community Corner. Any artists interested in trying please send me a conversation. The winner will be able to pick a blog, profile, piece of art, or whatever of their choice to promote on a future community corner so long as it's reasonable.
Song Of The Week:
Calling- The World Ends With You soundtrack
That's all for this week. Get involved in the things on this list, do some co-reviewing, help some sick kids, whatever piques your interest. There's a great camaraderie amongst this community you're only depriving yourself of if you don't participate in some of these. Now, as for future issues of this, if it gets good feedback I'll continue, otherwise I sweep it under the rug and feign ignorance when asked about it. For next week, if you want me to promote a community event, add a new section, or provide suggestions to improve the Community Corner shoot me some kind of discussion, be it conversations, profile comments, commentson this blog, Twitter (@StrangerGIO) or Skype. Thank you for reading GIO, and have a pleasant week.
Until next time,
