Here it is. My blog of shame. The games integral to any gamers history and their experiences, and I missed them. Be it by ill fate, lack of funds, or merely disinterest in the franchise, I have not experienced these enough in one form or the other. (I got the idea from Jeff Akervik's recent blog.) I'm sure many of you will want to kill me after seeing this list, and it's understandable.
What I Think It Is: One of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, a JRPG featuring time-travel and apparently an amazing story.
Why I Didn't Play It: Lack of money in the 16-bit era, the SNES version price skyrocketed afterwards.
What's Next For It: Now that I have a 3DS, one of my first purchases is going to be the DS re-release of Chrono Trigger.
What I Think It Is: A shooting/horror game with a great world.
Why I Didn't Play It: Just never looked interesting to me. I've never been big on the shooter OR horror genres. It was only recently I saw that shooters can have good stories too.
What's Next For It: Not real high on my priority list, but I'll eventually get around to it.
What I Think It Is: Platform-esque gameplay on top of a story about a fallen world and an orphaned woman.
Why I Didn't Play It: By the time I got old enough to be interested in trying this series, I had moved away from Nintendo systems.
What's Next For It: Wasn't real high on my priority list, but a friend keeps nagging at me to try it and I will as soon as I can. Jerk.
Red Dead Redemption
What I Think It Is: A open-world game set in the Wild West about a man trying to escape from his past.
Why I Didn't Play It: Merely because it's been too pricey for me to try, especially as a new IP I'm unsure of, no matter if it's Rockstar or not.
What's Next For It: Honestly, fairly low on my list. Before you start sharpening your pitchforks, hear me out. I stumbled across THE spoiler for this game in the comments section of an article here on GIO, and our resident Rockstar fanboy Anticitizen-One told me to go ahead and try GTA IV first since RDR's plot was ruined.
Final Fantasy series
What I Think It Is: A series of JRPGs that are story heavy and turn-based.
Why I Didn't Play It: Merely disinterest in 16-bit JRPGs until recently, and didn't have the money to track down a copy of FF-7.
What's Next For It: My clone is either gonna make me play this series after Chrono Trigger or he's going to kill me. I see myself trying it in the near future.
What I Think It Is: MORE GTA! (Not a bad thing by any means.)
Why I Didn't Play It: Honestly, no clue, I absolutely loved Vice City and San Andreas. It's just one of those that slips you by.
What's Next For It: Probably getting myself a copy within the next week.
Assassins Creed series
What I Think It Is: Stealth and assassination games revolving around both history and fiction.
Why I Didn't Play It: Actually, I played the first a BIT, but it was boring enough for me to quit after about fifteen minutes and not revisit the series.
What's Next For It: I may pick up the first or second during a gaming drought and attempt the series again, but it's not high-priority.
Metal Gear series
What I Think It Is: Stealth games with a rich story.
Why I Didn't Play It: I DID play a little bit of Twin Snakes, but that was a few years back and didn't think much of it. The more modern ones I've shied away from due to the fact that I haven't explored the early parts of the series.
What's Next For It: I already have Twin Snakes for Gamecube, if outcry is loud enough for me not playing this I'll go dig it out of its box.
Street Fighter series
What I Think It Is: A fighting series?
Why I Didn't Play It: Lack of interest entirely. I'm not a fighting-games type player, the genre for the most part doesn't appeal to me, with the possible exception of Mortal Kombat.
What's Next For It: REALLY low on my list, and I actually own a copy of 2 Turbo Hyper Mega or whatever from a yard sale for the SNES.
Half Life series
What I Think It Is: Shooting games, someone named Gordon Freeman and Alex Vance, and a crowbar.
Why I Didn't Play It: It's a bit of an enigma. I have NEVER had a PC capable of running Half Life 1, and am unsure about digging into my Orange Box 360 copy of Half Life 2 without playing the first.
What's Next For It: It's up to you, readers. Tell me in the comments if I should wait to play HL1 first or go directly to HL2 ASAP.
Well, there you have it. My wall of shame. I will provide updates periodically on its status, and whether or not you all can put away the weapons. Until then, thank you for reading, and sound off with your own personal lists of shame down below.
