What's Happening

Guess That Gamer (MAR)...

In January I started a new series called "Guess That Gamer" and it was received with mostly positive results so I continued it into February, which was also received rather well. If anything, those who commented said it was "too easy" which is not a surprise. My goal was for it to be more fun than ridiculously difficult. If you didn't catch those episodes of what I plan on being a monthly feature, you can find them here: Guess That Gamer (JAN) and Guess That Gamer (FEB).

As a reminder, the blog is basically a Game Informer community edition of the "20 Questions" game...

Twenty Questions is a spoken parlor game which encourages deductive reasoning and creativity. It originated in the United States and escalated in popularity during the late 1940s when it became the format for a successful weekly radio quiz program. In the traditional game, one player is chosen to be the answerer. That person chooses a subject but does not reveal this to the others. All other players are questioners. They each take turns asking a question which can be answered with a simple "Yes" or "No." In variants of the game multiple state answers may be included such as the answer "Maybe." The answerer answers each question in turn. If a questioner guesses the correct answer, that questioner wins and becomes the answerer for the next round. If 20 questions are asked without a correct guess, then the answerer has stumped the questioners and gets to be the answerer for another round.

Well, another month is here (and over half way gone) so it's time for episode 3, complete with 20 new questions and another unknown member for you all to try and guess this person's true identity. This time, I'm going to try and make it a wee bit more difficult.

You may recall, the questions are generic and short enough so the answers aren't glaringly obvious who the person is. I'm sure you can identify many of the bloggers and commenters here by their writing style, but with a one word answer, obviously that's not quite as revealing. So yeah, short questions = short answers. Good luck. You'll need it. And with each of the questions, I provide a comment after the fact, just to kind of throw my thoughts on the answer into the mix - for the mystery gamer and the rest of the community to ponder (my comments will be in parenthesis).

Let's roll...

Guess That Gamer (MAR) - 20 Questions

1. Pick an adjective to describe your gaming personality.

Focused

(I can see that.)

2. Are you a "lead, follow or get out of the way" kind of gamer?

Get out of the way

(Yeah, me too. Kind of a lone wolf.)

3. Favorite video game developer?

Naughty Dog

(Great choice. They're no Valve, but still cool.)

4. Is the pen mightier than the sword?

The pen is always mightier than the sword

(Hah, unless you're the one getting stabbed with the sword.)

5. Last movie you watched in the theater?

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows

(Star Wars Episode 1 3D for me. Haven't seen that Sherlock Holmes movie.)

6. Favorite Star Wars movie?

Empire Strikes Back

(It DANG well better be!)

7. If you could go to any industry event, which would it be?

ComicCon (would that be an industry event for this question? If not, then E3)

(Definitely Comic Con or E3...but wow that would be hard to pick between the two.)

8. And if cosplay was part of this event, what character would you go as?

Garrus (Mass Effect)

(Interesting choice. Well if you ask Oni no Tenshi, I'd be C3PO.)

9. Favorite character from Lord of the Rings?

Legolas

(He was pretty amazing, wasn't he?)

10. Name a video game character that might resemble you? (Physically)

Desmond from Assassin's Creed

(Hah. Remind me to never tick you off!)

11. Name a video game character that might resemble you? (Personality)

Victor Barisov (scientist and helper to the main character in Singularity)

(Haven't played it, so can't relate.)

12. Achievements, are they like Pokémon or not? (Gotta Catch Them All)

Not like Pokemon

(Agree. Well, sometimes it depends on the game, so mostly agree.)

13. Favorite Mario Power Up?

The hammer in Donkey Kong

(HAH! Showing your age.)

14. Any game you absolutely dislike?

Not really. There is some good in everything

(I like that attitude and that's how I try to see things.)

15. Favorite genre of the traditional sense?

RPGs

(I knew it! That's what I guessed. Bet you enjoy chess too.)

16. Least favorite genre?

Fighting Games (Street Fighter, etc)

(I tell myself I don't like fighting games until I sit down and play some Soul Caliber.)

17. Do you still watch cartoons?

No

(Not even the old classics? Tsk Tsk.)

18. Should Bioware change the ending to Mass Effect 3 to appease the crowd?

No, they should stick to their guns

(Concur. It's a shame I even have to ask this question.)

19. If you were a Jedi, what colour would your light saber be?

Mauve

(LOL. I'm sure everybody thought you were a dude until this question. Now, who knows?)

20. If you were a video game, how old would you be? (Provide a game roughly your age)

Pong

(Yeah. Me too. In video game years, I'm a classic.)

This concludes the third edition of Guess that Gamer. I hope everyone enjoyed it and I look forward to the guesses. Remember, you get out of the community what you put into it, so join in on the fun and take a guess. Who knows, maybe episode four will feature you? I'll post the answer in a day or so. Cheers.
