Gamer's Log 5: Future Gaming Community

Hi GI! Well, today was my last day as a Gold Xbox Live player, and going to stick to offline gaming for a while. Why is that? The online gaming of now is really getting me tired for a reason. And that reason can be divided in so many different ways.

It appears that the gaming community from before was a friendly one. I could even barely see anyone hating me when I used to play with Game Boys and a Link Cable to play Pokémon or F1, or locally play Goldeneye 007 or Super Smash Bros. and so on. And what happened? Why is everyone rude? Truth to be told: Online Competition.

Sure, we all would love to be #1 on the leaderboards, but come on people. I mean, there's no reason to get mad at another player over something stupid like killing you with a Grenade Launcher Tube in Call of Duty or camping with a Sniper Rifle.

Truth to be told, if it's in the game, it's valid. I understand Glitches and Modded matches and lag switches, but getting mad at another player for using something that's valid in the game? Let me ask you a question.

Do you think strategically? As if you were the one in the battlezone? Do you play as if you're the one holding the gun? If not, why not? That's the videogame's purpose. The purpose of the videogame is to simply make you feel that you're the one going through all those things in the game.

And why is this purpose important? Well, it makes you use logic and be creative. It's when you start planning right and stock up on important things and make sure you don't get killed. It makes you experience this world that you never imagined. And then you merge completely with the game and BOOM! You become a master soon enough.

And what does this have to do with the online community? Because they don't like to lose. And the reason they don't like to lose is because they want to be #1 and they don't merge with the game.  For example: In CoD, people complain when people use the Tube, and they start saying that it's no skill. I can agree with one thing... it is a cheap shot. But it's valid.

And why do they complain? Because they simply don't understand that if it was them in the battlezone, that anything that would kill the enemy is essential. If you were in the war, and saw a bunch of enemies coming after you, wouldn't you use the Grenade Launcher Tube? Of course you would. And the videogames are there for you to experience it without the need for you to go to war.

And they get angry at everything. They start attacking you, threatening you, spamming you, etc. And why? For you doing something that it's "illegal" to them? Please, if it's illegal, then shooting your enemy in the head in the game should give you life in prison. People, you must understand a game before complaining about nonsense.

And the online community is nowhere close to understanding all of this. And why? Not everyone thinks the same. Some are racists, some are "manly", some have a really huge ego, etc. And why can't we all just get along?

2012 is here. The year for peace. Why are we still fighting each other? Gamer to gamer? Why? We are all a big community, and we can't afford to have a full blown scale war over videogames. It's just plain stupid.

So I ask the GI community to speak up and stop this online nonsense. If GI made a group about this, I'm sure that we can see progress and more friendly competition online than rather have someone talking smack over the mic and threatening you to kill you or something. We can't keep this up.

Think about it gamers: if this is not controlled soon, then it's going to grow bigger and bigger. And it's going to get worse, probably leading the government take control over the online community or finish it to avoid further problems. SOPA was close enough to control our lives, as well as for ACTA.

And I know most will ignore this. But I can't sit  around and wait for someone to say something. Why can't we do something about it? It's our community, and we play for fun, and some friendly competition. If you want to be #1, then go ahead, but remember your manners. When you get to the top, it's going to be a lonely spot, and you won't have friends, only enemies. You can be #1 and still make friends that wouldn't mind tagging along.

But we have to stop this hate. We wouldn't want our future gamers, A.K.A. kids, to see all of that. We would want them to experience a competition online at it's finest. No racism, no haters, etc.

Come on GI, Take the first step. We have to do something about our online community. And for those who have anger issues, please tell us before hand, so we know you don't mean much of what you say. You must go to Anger Management though, since we all worry about your health.

Gamers, stay united. We do have Freedom of Speech, but it's not an excuse to make our community worse.
