Chances are, if you're a Star Wars fan, you're well aware of the current animated series airing on the Cartoon Network, Fridays at 8 pm. Although the prequel-ish film that hit theaters last year was kind of a dud, the animated series itself has turned out to be quite the pleasant surprise.

Unfortunately, the new game based on the series appears to be yet another atrocious cash-in. The game's sole purpose is to lure in unsuspecting young fans, with its jedi mind tricks, and steal their moneys (and a portion of their soul) in order to fuel George Lucas' evil Galactic Financial Empire.

I'll get straight to it - this game is simply not fun. It comes complete with terrible controls, uninspired gameplay, lousy combat and a barely there story. Not to mention, it looks like a PS2 game, despite being on next-gen consoles. There's also plenty of horrible platforming to keep you cursing like an angry jawa. Or laughing, which is what I found myself doing most of the time. Believe me, it's not often that a game's controls are so excruciatingly poor that I'm left with no option other than to laugh every time my doof of a jedi goes hurdling off of a ledge.

The platforming could easily be much more frustrating, however, if it weren't for the fact that you cannot die. You respawn in a manner of seconds, almost exactly where you left off. Considering that the overly repetitive single player campaign seems to drag on for light years, this can be looked at as either a good thing or a bad thing. It's good, because you'll fall to your death more times than Luke could cry in an hour. On the other hand, it's bad because it holds the game back from being just irritating enough to make you turn it off and throw it into the gaping maw of a sarlacc pit monster - never to be seen again.

And there's one reason why you probably won't, if you do manage to rent it. The game has ridiculously easy achievements and trophies.

Oh, and did I mention it looks like a PS2 game?

I haven't even finished the game's first act (out of three) and the game has already bored me enough that I'm sure if someone were to look at my face while I was playing they would swear I had been frozen in carbonite. I think, at this point, it's safe to say that this wookie has rabies so you might as well stay clear. Unless, of course, you're an achievement/trophy *** and you're boldly willing to brave its ravenous bite.

I'll post more later, if the game doesn't bore me to death first...

Shopping for Blu-rays with Quasi: Week of October 6th - vol. 1

Hello, all!

As another regular feature to my blogosphere, I plan to keep people informed about great deals, which blu-rays are releasing and what I plan to purchase, on a weekly basis. If other deals surface or I buy a bunch of titles on a whim, I'll update with a vol. 2.

Deal of the Week: Good only until midnight, tonight, if you pre-order Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and then enter the promotional code "snowhite" at the checkout, this double-disc Diamond Edition sells to you for $9.99. The suggested retail price is $39.99. It also includes a DVD copy of the film.

Sales to Consider: If you happen to miss the Amazon sale, Wal-mart has Snow White, along with Monsters vs. Aliens and X-men Origins: Wolverine for $19.96 each.

Best Buy has a selection of Warner Bros. and New Line catalog titles on sale for $9.99. the discs included are: American History X, A Clockwork Orange, Collateral Damage, Final Destination, The Fugitive, Ocean's Twelve and The Wedding Singer.

Best buy also has a few titles on sale for $17.99: 17 Again, 300, The Dark Knight, Friday the 13th (2009), Goodfellas, Gran Torino, Harry Potter: Years 1 - 5 (each separate disc for $17.99), Observe & Report and The Watchmen: Director's Cut.

Other notable discs on sale at Amazon, this week:

2001: A Space Odyssey, Blazing Saddles and Unforgiven for $8.99.

American Psycho, Halloween (1978), Hellraiser, Interview with the Vampire, Mongol, Risky Business, The Terminator and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) for $9.99.

Carrie, Casino Royale: Collector's Edition, Ghostbusters, Hellboy, King Kong, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Van Helsing for $12.49.

The 40-Year Old Virgin, Black Hawk Down, Cast Away, Dodgeball, From Hell, I Robot, Kramer vs. Kramer and Starman for $12.99.

Tips of the Week: Sure, Warner Bros. and New Line have a bunch of catalog titles hitting shelves, tomorrow, but as of now they're all selling at or around their suggested retail price of $28.99. I'd say wait a week or two. Over the past few months, most of WB's catalog titles have shown up at most retailers for $12.99 and under within a few weeks of their release. Don't jump the gun on any Warner Bros. or New Line catalog titles.

Also, four of the Ghost House Underground titles are coming to blu-ray, and Best Buy has them on sale, where you can get all four for $60. Word to the wise, these are all low-budget, direct-to-video horror films making their home video debut. Meaning that not a lot of people have seen these movies. The sale price may be tempting at $15 a disc, but you may end up with $15 turds.

Releases for October 6th:

Audition - cheapest price is $17.99 at Amazon

Quasi's Picks: So far, I've got my pre-order on Snow White along with three catalog purchases, to get the free shipping. I had $20 worth of Amazon gift card balance to spend, so my total came out to $25.34. the other three titles I grabbed were Hellraiser, Starman and A Time to Kill.

I also stopped in Best Buy, today, and picked up The Wedding Singer for $10.

Snow White is nearly a must for Disney fans. The Miracle on 34th Street titles and Home Alone 2 are cheap and good enough to pick up if you want to start preparing for Christmas early. Willy Wonka looked fantastic on HD DVD, so I can't see it being any worse on blu-ray. Audition is a fantastic suspense/horror film from foreign director Takashi Miike. At $17.99, it seems like a steal.

The Ending: That's all for now. More to come, either later this week or next Sunday, which will be its regular release day from here on out.

There are plenty of open-world games out there to choose from, these days. With an almost MMO-like feel, and me not being an MMO fan, these types of games are usually either hit or miss. They have to give me more to do than travel from point A to point B to start the next mission. And said travel has to be more exciting than nabbing a car and clumsily driving my way there and back. Fortunately, Prototype makes the excessive distance crawling a lot more exciting than your average open-ended environment fare.

As Alex Mercer, an ordinary man infused with extraordinary, but gruesome, powers, the game lets players dash around, over or through any obstacle that crosses their path. The maneuvering controls felt a little stiff, at first. But they grew on me after about thirty minutes or so. Like most games of its ilk, heading directly to the next mission isn't imperative. You can dawdle around, slaughter some innocents, or see how far you can throw a bus, if you so choose. There seems to be plenty of side events and missions to keep you occupied. Some of them handle like mini-games, such as races or "kill 'x' number of enemies before the time runs out. Decent distractions, I guess, but in the end I only see myself playing them repeatedly because they have achievements/trophies attached to them.

My biggest gripe with the game so far, however, is the combat system. It feels very sloppy and uncouth. I've already died a handful of times because of a random button mix-up or shoddy camera angle. Hopefully, as my character becomes more powerful, through the upgrade system, these issues will become less apparent.

I've only reached the game's 4th mission, so I've really only just begun. There will be much more to cover next time around. As for now, I'd say I'm leaning towards the game being worth a rental or a purchase, if you can find it cheap.

That's all for now!

But this new incarnation seems to be a step in the right direction. I'm sure it will take me a while to get used to the new forums. And - well, everything else. I look forward to the newness of it all.

As for this blog. I'm not much of a "post random thoughts" kind of guy, so I'll probably come up with a few ideas for video game and movie impressions. I guess I can start some kind of regular entry about blu-ray and my various purchases, as well. I've already thought of an idea for what I can call my regular video game impressions entries... "It's just a Hunch." It may be corny, but it plays off of my username.

Groovy stuff, so far. I dig it.
