The Top Ten Greatest Video Games Of All Time
As Seen By P.M.C
10. Resident Evil (Gamecube)
The original Resident evil on the psone was a triumph in its time. It had original gameplay, scary vibes, terrible voice acting, a good plot and was rather long. So when Capcom decided to remake the original RE it sounded like a good idea. What the team made became a masterpiece. The remake was so finely tuned and was what the original Resident Evil should have been. Now Capcom has decided to stick with its action heavy concept for the new games in the franchise. Its nice to play the game series how it was originally made. The game deserves atleast one playthrough. It is true gem in a clouded pool of familiar games.
9. Prince of Persia (NES)
I remember playing this game when I was very young, barely being able to walk and talk. I admired how the character I was controlling could move so smoothly. The original Prince of Persia was ahead of its time. While Mario may have been able to shoot fireballs, our character could use a sword and make miraculous jumps. Going back and playing it when I could actually interpret what was going on made he game even better. A true classic.
8. Super Mario World (SNES)
Do I really need to explain why a Mario game should be on my list for top 10 video games of all time? Well Super Mario World sticks out for me. There were all of those secret levels that you could find hidden everywhere, Yoshi helped out and there were several different colors of Yoshi you could find. The bird feather that gave you a magical cape was awesome! I could go on and on, but the fact is Mario is the man!
7.Okami (PS2)
Take some Legend of Zelda inspiration, add in lots of creative twists and top that off with a bad a** celestial wolf and you got yourself Okami. The game in terms of visuals is just beutiful to look at. Everything looks like it is living and breathing and can make you want to just stop and check it out. The gameplay is fantastic, with epic fights that will keep you on your toes. It is all wrapped up with an intricate plot based on ancient Japanese folklore. I feel like not enough people have got to experiance this wonderful game, it needs a sequel! This game should not be missed.
6. Dead Space (Xbox 360, PS3)
Remember all those things you used to have nightmares about when you were a kid? Yeah well Dead Space brings them to life. Set in the future, a routine cleaning job turns out to be a horrifying trip when the cleaning crew discovers what happened to their clients ship. The denizens of the ship have become vicious bloodthirsty creatures and are lurking down every dark corner and in every room. With limited ammo supply and intense thrills this game will knock you on your a**. It should be played late at night with all the lights out for maximum effect.
5. Dragon Warrior (NES)
The original Dragon Warrior established a formula, that has leaked over into thousands of JRPG's.The devolopers have to atleast caught an appreciation of what the game did for them. The game itself is fun and really brings me back to when I was a kid. Before gamefaqs.com could help me out, I was stuck asking every single villager multiple times as to where to go; only to later find the dungeon randomnly searching the world map. The game pushed what was capable in its era and pretty much started a genre.
4. Super Smash Brothers Melee (Gamecube)
This game will never get old to me. I've been playing it since it first came out almost 10 years ago, and still play it atleast once a week with some buddies. It has some of the smoothest fighting around, is easy to understand but hard to master and has tons of unlockables. If your the kind of person who thinks of who would win in a fight between Princess Peach and Donkey Kong then this game is for you.
P.S. Peach would totally whoop Donkey Kong's butt.
3. Final Fantasy V (SNES)
You could pick what classes your characters would be oufitted with which led to many different combinations of warriors. I felt like these heros were my troops in the many battles we faced together. It has an epic story that spans two worlds. There are open world maps to explore as well as a countless number of dungeons. This game is huge, and is always being drowned out by how good all the other Final Fantasies are. I'm not bashing any other Final Fantasy games, but I feel like this one just stands up to all of them and is just so unique and original. I'd take a full scale remake of this instead of VII any day.
2. The Legend Of Zelda : A Link to the Past
The first Zelda established exploration and finding your own way to complete the goals. In A Link to the Past everything was just on a higher level. The game boasted many dungeons and had a hefty amount of playtime to complete the main quest. Go ahead and all of the heart pieces and extra items and you got yourself one lengthy SNES cartidge. No developers were making games like this back then, and many still cant pull it off now. The Legend of Zelda is one of the most important franchises in gaming. This one set the standard for how Zelda games would be made and played.
1. Chono Trigger
A dream team of artists and game devolopers were called in to create a masterpiece. Well, they succeeded in making one of the most memorable gaming experiances ever made. The game is flawless. It has great gameplay, an engaging story, wonderful characters, an amazing soundtrack and bright colorful visuals. It had great spins on classic rpg battle sequences. Combine your power with another allie and devastate your opponents. The world is vast and you will be traveling around in different time eras. For those of you who haven't experianced this game, I feel sorry for you. This game is the reason why I still play video games. I'm still trying to capture that moment of zen right after I beat Chrono Trigger for the first time and was sad that it ended.
I applaud you for adding a lot of old-school games.
Chrono Trigger is awesome.
@ Batman Prime
Thank you! Although most of these games wouldn't wow anyone with their graphics, they are true gems and stand the test of time.
Nice list! Most people just pump out the games they've bought recently in the past two years. All I EVER see in these kinds of lists is Halo 3, Fallout 3, Uncharted 2, etc. (not that they don't deserve to be mentioned, but)
@ Moustachio Thank you kind sir, Dead Space is the only one that would fit into that category. I had to put it in here because it was so freaky and had a sense of desperation most of the way through.
!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That's him! The guy who pwnd me in twenty straight bouts of every online game concievable to man! That's him I tell you!
You see? This is why birds will conquer the world.
Nice list, I'd contest Dead Space but I'm not too much of a horror fan so can't complain.
I'm surprised most don't have Chrono Trigger at #1 let alone in their top 10...good times.
@ Joe Thibault
I knew some people would question Dead Space's place on my top ten, but I just really got a kick out of the game. You have to strategically shoot off the monsters limbs in order to take them down properly. The environments were dark and creepy as hell. That game just blew me away, and I wasn't expecting much about it when I bought it. That is why it made it on my list, but this is just my personal opinion. I highly doubt anyone would agree with my list game by game, but to each his own right?
Nice list. I think I'm going to edit mine and do them in reverse order... I think that's the better way to do it.
@ Born4this
Yes you can kinda crank up the anticipation of whos going to be number 1 that way. The whole time they'll be like "OMG whats number 1?!?! I CAANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!"
HAHA!!! I just changed it. Much better. :)
Nice list, though the title is a tad pretentious. Still, when given the choice of Resident evil games, why would you go with the remake over #4?
Because I dont really like the whole "Kill everything that moves mindlessly and then save the girl" concept they got going on in 4. Dont get me wrong, Resident Evil 4 is a solid and remarkable title but I miss the old school style that the original titles in the series had. Its all about your own personal opinion mang, and I personally love the remake.
nice selection
thank you kevin!
I also appluad for adding many classics.the legend of zelda is one of the most important franchises in gaming.and now you've introduced me to some older games i need to check out.thank you Psychedub Massive Crew!
your welcome Majora! I'm glad I can help out a fellow gamer!
Yeah, but you have to admit tank controls were the failing point of the originals. Though I will say I hate 5, co-op completly dissapates the scares. My only real problem with 4 is the story kinda gets real corny after the village area.
Yeah i can understand that. The tank controls sucked, but i'll always remember that moment in the first one when the dogs just jumped through the windows walking through what looked like a peaceful area.
When they remade it with updated graphics and new areas to explore, it just completely blew me away. The game is amazing, and I really loved Resident Evil 4's gameplay, but it was seriously missing in the story department like you said. The original had a very suspenseful and interesting plot, and had an overall creepy vibe. Forget about 5's plot, or complete lack thereof.
I liked resident evil 5, I've completed the story a couple of times. I may not have liked it as much as either RE4 or the remake but it was still a solid game. Sheva is not really a good partner though, her AI kinda sucks. Mercenaries is pretty fun though, once you get into it. It gets really intense some times and is a blast online.
Do you recommend the dlc for RE5? i've been looking at it but I get the feeling I might be getting ripped off. Anyway I completed RE4 100% percent and I am very familier with mercenary mode. I dislike the new one because with a partner around,ai or not, I'm just not feeling the fear anymore.
BTW, I played the original on saturn, and then beat the GC remake later, so I do know what you are talking about.
i haven't tried the dlc for RE5, but from what i hear its good.
