CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 2 REVIEW

Call of duty is a first person shooter. this is the sequel to the first black ops, which was set in the 1960s. this game however is set in the near future. it has you play as the son of the main character from first game. you play as david mason, you are part of a elite task force who's mission is to find raul mendez. he is the reason your father is dead and your guardian is in a weelchair. he is the head of a terrorist organization that is trying to make you suffer as well as your country.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        the single player campaign introduces new gameplay features such as the power of choice and new custom weapons for use in single player. the choice options are pretty cool. so, for example, if you choose to shoot john then you may get to meet jill, but if you don't shoot john then he may become your friend, but you never get to meet jill. which can make for some really unique situations.                                                                                                                                                                                         the gunplay is just as good as ever. i played on a PS3, and the controls are the same as it has been for the last few call of duty's. R1 to shoot, L1 to voom, R3 to move, L3 to look around. the new guns are really cool to use. most of them are the same from some of the other call of duty games but painted to look like its from the future. then there are the guns that are new to the game and those are really fun to run around and just murder some guys with.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             new to the series is the strike force missions, which is good on paper but not in execution. the missions range from protecting a few generators to assassinating a high value target. i played on veteran so for me these were the hardest missions to beat, just because you have a limited number of soldiers to use  for each mission, and i tend to die a lot. the idea for strike force is that you need to succeed in order to  win as in the main missions but if you die in the main mission you respawn at a checkpoint, but if you die in strike force you switch to another character and you do so until you run out of guys. a cool part about these missions if you choose to play them, is you might get a new story path instead of  just playing the main campaign. so lets say that you need to save a hostage from some terrorists and you complete that mission well you just gained a new ally, who might be able to help you in single player, and that may also affect your story.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          the multiplayer is really some of the most fun to be had with this game. it is the same game modes  that gamers have come to love and hate. such as free 4 all, team deathmatch, king of the hill and capture the flag to name a few. the new feature for multiplayer is the pick ten system. this is where every time you level up you gain one unlock token which let you unlock guns, perks and anything you would use your currency to buy. the pick ten is also for create a class. this works as you have ten open spaces that you can customize however you like. if you are the gun nut then you can have two primary guns equipped at the same time, or maybe you're the perks guy then you may want to use all the perks you can get, which is a lot. and of course it's always fun to get some friends together and play to your hearts content.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                and now my favorite part, zombies. zombies introduces two new game modes. transit and grief, but of course good old fashion survival is back as well. transit is the new open world mode, where four players try and survive as long as they can but with a new twist. you now can ride around in a bus that takes you to designated stops along the map, but if you just so happen to jump out of the bus, you might be able to find some pretty crazy secrets. grief is a fun mode to play with friends because you can, as the name implies, grief your friends. its the same as survival just with friendly fire. survival is just as it has been for the last black ops and world at war, four players stuck in a small map with all the guns and ammo you can ever want. its one of the best horde modes out there, in my opinion.                                                                                                                                                                                             the graphics are pretty good from afar but if you get to close to a wall it might not be as crisp as you thought. the sound is good as well. all of the guns sound just like a gun should sound, but some times when you need to hear what somebody is trying to tell you it sounds a little muffled.                                                                                                                                                                                                         overall this is one of the best shooters that came out this year. it's a must have for a fan of the series. definitely more fun than the new medal of honor and a little bit cooler then halo 4. the single player story is fun for a few playthroughs, just because it gets a little repetitive after a while. you will be spending most of your time with multiplayer and zombies.
