You know that game from 2007 that everyone was talking about? No, not Bioshock, Uncharted, or Halo 3, it's Mass Effect. After four years of being late to the party, I've finally arrived, and I'm loving almost every minute of it. With its awesome story, fantastic characters and satisfying gunplay, it makes for a truly amazing experience.... which actually has me concerned.

I can't stop thinking about it! I wonder what's going to happen next, even hours after I finish playing. I suppose that means it's a great game, but I haven't really experienced this before. If I play a good game, I wonder about it, sure, but never like this (Of course, the games I've truly been in love with have never actually been 30+ hour RPGs...). With Mass Effect, I just can't stop thinking about these characters that I really feel invested in, and how their journey aboard the Normandy will conclude.

The ironic part is, I want to be done with Mass Effect, so I can push it aside...

For Mass Effect 2, that is.

My favorite characters so far are Wrex, the bad-*** Krogan Battlemaster, and Ashley, the calm, cool and collected Alliance soldier. I'm almost desperately hoping that they both carry over to Mass Effect 2, but I'm a bit worried, as GIOR friends Ben and Jayson have given me some... worrying hints on Twitter.

I'm guessing that I'm going to have to choose between one or the other. With Ashley's nature of not liking the Aliens on the ship, I could see them getting into a fight.

Or you know, it could just be a Spider-Man 1-esque "Save this one or that one" situation. I'd choose Ashley, by the way. Wrex is awesome, but Ashley is cooler .
Of course, I'm not asking you guys to spoil it for me. I'd like to find it out on my own.
Right now I'm on the planet Virmire, which looks fantastic.
That said, no matter how good the planet looks, the mission starts off pretty lame. If you have played Mass Effect, you know what I'm talking about. These two words can bring up some really frustrating thoughts.
Mako sements.
For those of you who don't know, the Mako is a vehicle in which you get around the vast planets in Mass Effect. In short, these segments are bad. The controls are shoddy, but what's worse is the horrible checkpoints in these segments. Anytime you die in a Mako level, you pretty much have to start over from the point where you first got into the Mako.
Actually, that's one of my biggest gripes with Mass Effect in general. The checkpoint (or Auto Save, if you will) system is just downright awful. If you die, you either end up somewhere reasonable, or incredibly frustrating. This was a big issue back in 2007, in the dawn of the new console generation, so you can imagine how hard it is for me, what with checkpoints being nearly perfected by games like Call of Duty 4 (Which also came out in 2007) and Uncharted 2.
That said, Jayson and Kyl3 gave me a pretty good tip to get past the bad chekpoints, and that is to save constantly. You can load these every time you die, instead of the auto-saves. Of course, the game doesn't tell you this (to what I saw), so I was about three hours in when I learned this. Still, it's saving me a ton of frustration down the line, so thanks for the help guys!
Jayson says I have about six hours left in the game, and it's kind of driving me mad. I want to know what happens so badly! Plus,
I want to know why Ashley looks so different in the Gameinformer Mass Effect 3 article. Don't spoil it for me though! (I probably won't read it anyways.)
So... yeah. I could probably go on for hours of why I love Mass Effect, but I'm going to end this here. I plan to get finished with it by either today or tomorrow, and then I can start Mass Effect 2.
...Then wait for Mass Effect 3.
