After hearing this same story from one of my dear friends not too long ago, I'd be inclined to imagine you're in the same boat as he was. Don't focus on the "why you're not playing games anymore" but instead the "I really need to stop myself from buying games just because"

We get into habits... and inevitably those habits become monotonous, whether they were born from leisure time activities or not. Stop buying games or gaming related paraphernalia for a few months if you can, and see what happens. If the spark to "catch up" ignites, hooray, you're back on track to being the gamer you thought you were. If not, then... you move on the the new chapter of your life, right?

I use to do that all the time with movies too. I believe I still have a few movies still unopened laying around in my collection. Now I tend to buy movies much, much less unless there is a sale on Amazon or it is something that needs to be watched immediately like Inception.

I do this sometimes and it drives my friends batshit crazy to see that I have unopened games just sitting around. With 2010 being so full of AAA titles, and the recent acquiring of a PS3, my backlog is pretty epic. And now I'm caught up in stupid NBA 2k11- where I have like 50 more games to play just in the first season of my career- before post-season starts, so yeah that game's a huge time-sink.

I find myself having a very similar situation only not as extreme. I have a BIG back log of games I did start but didn't finish. I also have some games I have not even really looked at but perhaps started for a bit and stopped. What I have noticed is that my job tends to make me so tired that I very rarely find the motivation to want to finish some games. True my interest is top in it but my motivation to play is just not all it once was. Don't get me wrong right now I am working on dead space 2 and I still have a list of at least 3 games I started but never finished.

Honestly it could be age, it could be you want to play the games but just don't have motivation like me. Really its something you should really think about tho.

Do any of your other interest fall behind like your interest in games?

Like interest in movies, music or other hobbies?

Sounds like me with movies. I'll hit up Best Buy on a Tuesday, maybe pick up a couple new releases and most of the time I just put them on the shelf and don't get around to watching them. Something I have to start limiting myself on.

i have the opposite every time i get a game, normally always at launch, i clear my schedule and rape it for like a week straight then im done... i have to learn to savor games better

I've been doing that a lot too, and I have a big back log as a result. Last year I picked up 3 games at launch: FFXIII, God of War III, and Persona 3 Portable. I played FFXIII and P3P right away, but I've yet to pop in God of War III. It's getting close to a year since the game launched and I've still yet to play it. After playing P3P I wanted to play The Answer part of Persona 3 FES since I'd never played that part of Persona 3 before.

I haven't even been playing that lately either. Instead of WoW, I've been having my time consumed by the open beta for Pandora Saga. Oy vey...

I have a bad habit of doing the same thing. But usually only with used games (I can't pass up a sale). If i'm really gonna spend full price on a new release then I'm almost always gonna play it straight away. The exception to that rule is Xmas presents...

That is kinda weird. I almost always open my purchase the second I get home. However, I did wait a couple days on Reach...what is happening to me?
