Even though Microsoft has denied the addition of a Blu-ray player for the Xbox 360 on numerous accounts, Steve Ballmer, CEO at Microsoft, recently confirmed that the addition of Blu-ray for the platform.

While responding to questions in a recent interview with Gizmodo, Ballmer stated that he wasn't sure they needed a 360 with a built in Blu-ray drive, but that “you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as additional accessories.” The focus was then quickly diverted by Ballmer to digital distribution with on demand content predicted as being the go to format for movies.

While having an accessory for HD movies is not something entirely new for Microsoft, we all know what happened to ill fated HD-DVD device which released in late 2006 and only lived to see about a year before being discontinued in early 2008.
