The lights are on
Power Member - Level 10
It’s time for a new blog. The USA just got knocked out of
the World Cup and I need something to distract me from my despair. I mean why
the frack did Bob Bradley start Ricardo Clark!?!?! Forgive me, I digress. Anyway,
in this blog I’m bringing ya’ll a list of my picks for the top 10 coolest
characters in gaming, and everybody loves lists right? Many of you may disagree
with this list, but I don’t really care. Saying something’s “cool” is a very
objective statement, so if your all-time favorite character doesn’t make the
cut, forgive me. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts, but please, keep
it civil. Also, PS3 gamers be
forewarned, I’m an Xbox guy so your favorite exclusive characters won’t be
represented. I’m sure Kratos is a
*** dude, but I wouldn’t know. I’ve never played God of War. And remember,
this is a list of the COOLEST video game characters, not the most significant
or anything like that. Take Mario for example: no one can deny the significance
he’s had in the gaming world, but there is nothing cool about a short, fat
Italian plumber. And finally, I don’t wanna hear anything from Final Fantasy
fans. Those games are so gay.
This blog may contain spoilers.
Francis – Left 4 Dead
Quote: "Merry Christmas."
Valve's official description of Francis sums up his coolness perfectly: "Cocky, loud, and pretty sure he's indestructible, Francis acts like the zombie apocalypse is the world's biggest bar fight. When the virus hit, everybody else stockpiled food and looked for a place to hide. Francis found a gun and had some fun."
Charizard – Pokemon
Charizard is hands down the coolest Pokemon. Back in the day, everyone wanted the holographic Charizard card, and I'll never forget how ecstatic I was the day I got mine. Charizard brings a sense of dignity to a world full of Clefairys and Jigglypuffs. I mean, he's a fire breathing dragon for Christ's sake. What's cooler than that?
8.) Scorpion – Mortal
Quote: "Get over here!"
The Mortal Kombat franchise has a lot of cool characters, but Scorpion is by far the coolest. Formerly a human ninja(cool enough in its own right), Scorpion is a hellspawned spectre inexorably seeking revenge against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his family. A glassy-eyed dead ninja hellbent on vengence with the ability to create fire and shoot a spear out of his hands. 'Nough said.
Thane Krios – Mass Effect
Quote: "Killing is an art, and I am a master."
Thane Krios is a Drell assassin, rumored to be the most skilled in the galaxy. Unlike most assassins, who prefer to snipe their targets from a distance, Thane prefers to get up close and kill his target personally, utilizing a mixture of stealth, firearms, hand to hand combat and biotic abilities. Being the most skilled assassin in the universe is no small feat, but the fact that Thane comes off as sauve, sophisticated and handsome despite looking like a cross between an exotic fish and a bird of paradise may be cooler than his deadly abilities.
Starkiller – The Force Unleashed
Quote: "I bring Darth Vader's enemies to justice."
Star killer is one cool dude. His lightsaber skills are impeccable, his force powers are devastating, his outfits are stylish. I mean, the guy pulled a frickin Star Destroyer out of the sky. If that doesn't make you cool I don't know what does. Plus, countless people have said I look just like him, so that's an added bonus... for him. Anyone who looks like me is obviously cool.
5.) John Marston – Red Dead
Quote: "Its you or me. And the way I see it, it might as well be you."
Red Dead Redemption has quickly become one of my favorite games, due in no small part to its Clint-Eastwood-esque protagonist, John Marston. Marston is the quintessential stoic western hero. A master gunman, rider and hunter, Marston knows life is a fight to survive and will do anything to protect his family.
4.) Tie: Altair/Ezio –
Quote - Altair: "Nothing is impossible, anything is possible."
Quote - Ezio: "I'll kill you for what you've done!"
The two protagonists from Assassin's Creed are some of the coolest of the cool. Mad skills, sweet hoods, and those hidden blades. What's not to love about these Templar torturers?
3.) Tie: Soap/Price –
Quote - Soap: "Took the scenic route eh?"
Quote - Price: "How'd a muppet like you pass selection?"
These two S.A.S. soldiers easily take the number three spot. This dynamic duo has saved the world... twice, and who doesn't love mohawks and muttonstaches?
2.) Master Chief – Halo
Quote: "Sir, Permission to leave the station."
"For what purpose Master Chief?"
"To give the Covenant back their bomb."
I've been a casual video game fan since I was little, but it wasn't until Master Chief came around that I considered myself a true gamer. The silent but oh-so-deadly protagonist of the Halo franchise has kicked more ass than Red Foreman could ever dream of, and I've loved every minute of it.
You – Any game that allows you to create your own character
I'm a huge rpg fan, so to me there's nothing cooler than saving the world with your own personalized character. In the last month alone, I've saved Cyrodil from the forces of Oblivion, stopped The Collectors from destroying the galaxy, and lead the St. Louis Blues to a Stanley Cup victory. That's quite a month if you ask me.
