It can get a bit tedious, since the advancement is basically a bunch of "get item, unlock pathway" type stuff, but the setting in SH is one of the creepiest in the whole survival horror genre. I hope you can finish it sometime, even if it's a bit dated the story is worth experiencing at least once.

Any reviewer you meet will have an opinion and I don't know that there really IS a benchmark test for game balance. The facts this time around are that there is a steep lack of balance in early play that changes completely with upgrades so that, as you all have responded, the game becomes too easy to play. That's a lack of balance. Play Vorp! (I have no vested interest whether you do or not). It has the same play mechanic but the gameplay is balanced all the way through.

Also, I believe I did tell you about the mechanics of play. Check out the second paragraph. And,the third. But, we don't have to agree. Like I said, I respect that we don't.

In fact, like 90% of the Kongregate games I've played, it's simply a matter of doing some upgrading any you'll fly right on through.

With this game, as you might suspect, one of the most powerful upgrades is also the most expensive; once you get the split-shots (first 2 then 3), things get much easier.

The last boss was a bit frustrating, just remember that your Zero Wipes hurt him, and focus more on avoiding his shots than making sure all of your own shots hit.

Probably the worst thing about this game is that it's not Geometry Wars (which remains much, much better than the Kongregate variants IMO), but the ability to upgrade does give it some identity of it's own (or, mark it as a definite Kong game).

re: Needs More Cowbell

At first I thought that if you're another troll here. I played this(and I don't normally play this style of game), and enjoyed it a great bit. The learning curve becomes steep early on as there are only a few basic things you need to know(how to move and shoot), not being able to upgrade until later makes the game a fun challenge(it's boring if you're going through one level after another without even stumbling). When you are replaying a level it's fun to treat it more as a puzzle then a shooter. After the first two or three times that you upgrade the game becomes excessively easy, and are able to obtain a incredibly numbers of 0's through upgrades, that's the reason for a slow start on upgrades.

Think about the mechanics of the game and less about your personal choice in them.

re: NBA Street Vol. 2

Heck yeah!
