Alright, so I am a giant pushover. With all of the latest news and hype surrounding Borderlands 2 (new trailer, concept art, pre-order bonus), my inner vault hunter was begging me to finish what I started with Borderlands and pop it into my XBox 360. While I had previously been discouraged by the egregious glitch that was tripped during one of my many raids of the Armory, I decided the best way to cauterize that wound was to keep playing, and eventually move onto the 2nd playthrough. A second playthrough would allow me to continue to level up and also get the achievement for completing all the missions in the Secret Armory DLC.
However, I needed a place to start with my first playthrough. I decided to start with the Circle of Duty mission string. Circle of Duty is a series of six (technically five but we'll get to that) arena-based missions, set in a remote area of the Sunken Sea in the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC.
Circle of Duty is broken down into six different missions:
Circle of Duty: New Recruit
Circle of Duty: Cadet
Circle of Duty: Private
Circle of Duty: Corporal
Circle of Duty: Sergeant
Circle of Duty: Medal of Duty
Circle of Duty: New Recruit is a fairly easy mission to start with. All you have to do is find the Circle of Duty Arena (Follow the inserted arrows on the above map), and speak with a man named Zach. He will provide you with the next Circle of Duty mission in the aforementioned order above.
In each of the remaining Circle of Duty missions, you have but one objective: Survive Round 0/1. Each of the subsequent rounds starts with you walking into a glowing red circle, thus unleashing wave after wave of Crimson Lance. The benefit of starting here (instead of Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot) is you continue to gain experience with each Crimson Lance you destroy and each Crimson Lance drops their usual loot (weapon, shield, money, health, etc). If you fail one of the missions, you do have to start that mission over again, and resupply your own ammo and med packs (vs. Moxxi where it is automatically replenished for you each time).
Here is a map of the actual Circle of Duty arena (also here's a link to the Borderlands Wiki page, which includes the same map but with Lance spawn points):
Here are a few tips for each round, so you don't get completely overwhelmed. I have also included what your character should receive after turning in each mission, based on my gameplay:
There you have it, fellow vault hunters! If you have any questions or want more helpful tips, comment on this blog! Also my gamertag on XBL is VeritaAmore87, enjoy!
