The lights are on
As if licensed video game ideas haven't gone crazy enough (A video game on Dante's Inferno anyone?), Morton Iversen, the writer of the Hitman games, is leading a project called "Eden" based off of the controversial Cannes film festival demon hellspawn: Antichrist. If you don't know anything about this movie, read my review of it here.
According to many numerous sources (My primary source being slashfilm)...
Eden, as the game will be called, will be a first-person thriller/adventure game that invites players to confront their fears. Willem Dafoe will reportedly reprise his role in voice-over, though the game will not replicate the film, picking up afterward instead. Iversen says the experience will be “strong and very personal,” “controversial” and that it “…must be your own personal hell - a bit like a nightmare version of ‘Myst’.” Iversen evidently was interviewed on Danish radio this week.
According to this source, and others, Eden is gonna be heavily ambitious. Not only will it stay true to the spirit of the film in forms of controversy, but also in its themes of challenging your fears, and the embodiment of evil. The game is PC exclusive (so far >_>) so those hoping to use the Wii remote to snip off your own testicles with scissors are in for a disappointment XD.
There have also been rumors that there will be "real-world interaction" in the game via the Internets. The dev team is planning a release that is either included on the DVD or downloadable only, as of now. Also, it is rumored that a graphic novel is in the works as well.......yeah...
So what do I think of this idea. It's crazy, but it just might work. It seems like the team is devoted to giving an incredibly unique experience, and if they nail the movie's atmosphere, this could be a disturbing game. But due to its comparison to Myst, I'm skeptical (As in, they might throw in a bunch of boring pointless puzzles), but in the mean time, my hopes are high for this game and the controversy it will produce...and srsly: WTF.
More info here.
Butt it mite B dum cuz every1 nose movi to games dont work!!
I read about this before the movie was released and I was surprised just like you.
They might only have a few thousand made anyway.
@ Morphina
That's probably why they're considering making it downloadable only.
This if focused towards a very small target audience but its definately something that might break some ground with adventure thrillers, especially if the "real-world interaction" is done right, or done at all really.
I am interested but I am not much of a fan of thrillers so I will have to keep an eye on this game.
I think this stuff is embarrassing. Movie to game games just destroy my image of the movie. If I were to watch the movie, enjoy it, and then play the game, I'd hate the movie. It makes me think it's the movie's fault, but clearly movie to game games are just awful. I gave up on them a long time ago. Now game to movie movies might do the exact opposite, but I really don't know. After all, Prince of Persia is being done by Disney, which is really strange, so I doubt there will be violence I will enjoy.
What platforms will this game show up on? Sounds very interesting.
???
@-STRAFE- GRAMMAR IS YOUR FRIEND
First of all I think decending into the nine levels of hell would make a perfect game.
Second this is a really bad idea. How can you make a game out of a psyco-thriller? Just look at Ju-on.
A tad dramatic for my tastes
I applaud them for doing something new and ambitious, but I'd be skeptical.
@ Spencer: YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ME.
But seriously, I was kidding. I was immitating the hoards who say video game-movie transitions don't work.
movie-to-game transitions suck all the time, except for GoldenEye, that is a HUGE exception of course. Idk though, sounds really crazy.
And does a guy really cut off his own testicels in the movie or something?? o_O
Wow. The placement of the last two posts was just amazing.
On another note, I really don't know what to think about this game. Haven't seen the movie, but yeah, i'm on the same side as Luke here.
