What's Happening

My final take on GI's top 200 games...

"Or even Halo 2--it's multiplayer was great...but the story line slacked...Halo 3 deserved that placement."

"WTF?!!?!? No Halo 3. List is teh suxors"

"how is Perfect Dark for n64 not on the top 200 list?"

"Did these editors not play Strider, Revenge of shinobi, shadow dancer, streets of rage?!?

"Your list disapointed me."

" I'm a bit disappointed not to see an Ace Combat title in there somewhere.  Am i the only person who played these games?"

"I also couldn't believe Halo 3 wasn't on there, I mean how does a game that improved upon its predecessors in every concievable way not make the list?

No list is going to be perfect, and taking on a list of 200 games is no easy task. I even felt that GI should take the games that just barely missed the cut, and take a page or two in the next issue and list the games as honorable mentions. It wouldn'y be a big hassle, and it would surely give these distressed people some peace of mind. If any of Gameinformer writers read this, then take it into consideration...

  • They idly mused about such a possibility in the weekly radio show. The staff started with a raw list of about 600 games before tackling the behemoth task of whittling it down to 200. We may see something posted here on the site in the coming weeks, but they gave the impression that it was an informal draft and there may not even be a comprehensive list on paper that you could reference. Honestly, these lists are all subjective...it's just a matter of explaining the selections and the methodology that you used to come up with your results. Maybe seeing the next 50-100 games down would be interesting, but I can't say I've got the itch to find out that badly, and I doubt the staff will want to look at another such list until issue 300.

  • Yeah, there were a few games missing that most gamers consider classics (hello, Star Wars Battlefront 2) that should have been on the list. If they do an honorable mention type thing, that would be great. I would like to know how that and certain other games didn't make it.

  • B-money, you should look at my blog of games that missed the list. (It has battlefront 2 and other great games on there

  • If they do an honorable mentions list then you will have people complaining as to why their favorite game didn't make that list.  Like in sports, honorable mention is given to say, thanks for showing up even though you lost.  Wouldn't be worth it.

  • I want to join in the rant!... Uh, Grrr, I can't believe Final Fantasy 7 didn't beat out final fantasy 6! Forget the fact that I have never played 6 or most of the games on the list, but based on the fact that final fantasy 7 was really good should make it number one! I mean, cuz my biased opinion has to count for something against the editors' long thought out process of voting and careful consideration! Because I like Final Fantasy 7 should make it number one!... Grr, I think I'll cancel my subscription because of this outrage!... Okay, how was that? Was that a good rant?

  • it's their opinion, get over it. Everyone has their own ideas/formulas on which belongs on the top 200.

In my opinion, I think they did a very good job with it.

...and really? Battlefront 2? It was good, but the horrible handling on vehicles made me go mad among other small details.

  • I was a little suprised that Perfect Dark wasn't in the list, but not TOO surprised, because it was basically a clone (albeit a good one) of GoldenEye, which did make it on the list.  Still, it would have been cool to have seen it in like #195 place, lol.

  • honorable mentions list is a good idea. to be honest deciding to make the top 200 list is a brave task because virtually noone can be 100% happy with it and there will certainly be complaints

  • I was a little dissapointed on some selection for the top 200 but it was overall impressive, another concrn is no mention of ZELDA:PHANTOM HOURGLASS, I thought it was groundbreakingthat it was such a successfull jump to the ds

  • That wasn't the best list.

  • I was disappointed in the (in my opinion) low placement of ocarina of time. I think it was top 5 material.

  • The fact that they brought classic games up because of cultural reverence probably made games go up higher than it should've been.

  • I myself (also my opinion) was very happy with Ocarina of Time being #20 in the list.  My biggest complaint with the list was that Re4 was in the top 20.  Yes, it was a good game, but THAT good?  Am I wrong? lol

  • Forgot to mention before, but how did Re4 beat Ocarina of Time?  OoT had a much bigger impact in the industry.

  • Their list sucked so bad it sucked of my moles from where they first wrote it. I hate zelda freakin games.

  • And here's my rant~

Personally, I think "Okami" should have been higher on the list. It's graphics were beautiful, the plot was unique and engaging, gameplay was wonderful, and it was full of quirky and memorable characters. I've played it about 6 times now and still enjoy it. It makes me happy. 8D

    But maybe I'm a little biased, 'cuz I'm not really a super-hardcore-mega-gamer.

List like that are quite relative. Some people prefer one game over another, and it's ultimately your opinion that determines which games you would choose. It's a bit like choosing you favorite genre: some people like one, and some like another. GI is asking for flames and hate when they make these types of lists.

And also, Legend of Zelda games annoy me.

  • Why wasn't Brawl on the top 200??? If it was why didn't the put a picture??? WTF????

  • I am looking to get halo 2 for pc any ideas on how or where i can buy?

  • And that's why your not a professional game reviewer.
