Memorial Day Blog Contest

*Update #1: There are approximately 2 days, 7 hours and 30 minutes remaining to post an entry. I've only seen 4 posted by Noobtubin8ter, Jolt, Blaze, and Le Hannibal. If you want to enter, just follow the instructions below. I also would like to add that my girlfriend will hand paint a Rainbow Six Patriots related design on a shirt for the winner. She does excellent work, for those of you who have never seen a picture of my Alan Wake shirt she made me, or the Battlefield Bad Company 2 shirt she painted. I hope more people will take advantage of this give away. I'd like to see some more entries.*

We, as gamers, naturally pay attention to certain dates that are approaching, that mark the date of release for some of our most anticipated titles. At times, it can be hard to have perspective on the world around us. While we have been eagerly anticipating such releases this month as Diablo 3 (5/15), Max Payne 3 (5/15), and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (5/22), there is another date that is approaching that should hold a great deal of importance to us all (assuming you live in the United States). That date of importance is Memorial Day and this year, it falls of May 28th.

As it should happen this year, in the week before Memorial Day, Ubisoft will be releasing another game in their Tom Clancy line of games.

For those unfamiliar with who Tom Clancy is, or any of his works, he is an American author who focuses his writing (both fiction and nonfiction) upon the military. As it should also happen, I have recently come into possession of several duplicate books by Tom Clancy. So, I decided to hold a contest in the blog section of GIO. That contest is this:

  • I will be giving away two sets of prizes in a blogging contest with the topic of "What Memorial Day Means To Me."
  • Every blog that is written with this topic in the title will be ranked by the judges.
  • I have two judges lined up, in addition to myself, for the selection process.
  • The two highest rated across all three judges will win one of the two sets of prizes.
  • First place will receive a total of 13 Tom Clancy books (they are used, with light wear; a list of all the books will be made below), while the second place blogger will receive a copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (the book, again it is used, with light wear).
  • All blogs must be completed before midnight central time on May 25th (Friday evening) in order to be considered for the contest.
  • Should a tie exist between two or more entries, I will come up with a secondary task to determine who will receive the prizes.
  • I will be watching the front page blogs for new entries. Should you write a blog, but not have it show up due to the restriction upon user level, please send me a a message on my profile and I'll make certain that you are added.
  • The results will be figured over Memorial Day Weekend and I will announce the Winners with an update to this blog on Memorial Day.

The books that will be given away for the first prize are:

  • The Bear And The Dragon
  • Clear And Present Danger
  • Splinter Cell: Operation Barracuda
  • Without Remorse
  • Debt of Honor
  • Rainbow Six
  • The Cardinal Of The Kremlin
  • The Sum of All Fears
  • Op-Center
  • Op-Center: Balance of Power
  • Op-Center: Divide And Conquer
  • Op-Center: Line Of Control
  • Op-Center: Acts Of War

Now, while I am placing no restriction upon the length that a blog must be, remember that you will be competing against other bloggers, so put forth some effort. You could write about those lost in Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, someone you know that lost their life in combat, or perhaps an ancestor that died in a past war and how their sacrifice affects you today. The choice is up to you.

If you have any questions about this contest, feel free to ask them in the comment section below.
