There's something that's been on my mind a lot lately - I'd buy a PlayStation Vita if my favorite XBLA & PSN titles were available for it.
I love downloadable games. Some of my favorite titles from the current generation of consoles were released on XBLA and/or PSN (see my Top 10 Favorite Games of This Generation.) When I'm not in the mood to play any of my retail games, I am usually in the mood to at least play a downloadable game for awhile (especially Trials HD - LOVE that game!) Downloadable titles are a lot of fun, and they're also easier to play for shorter periods of time. If I have 10 to 20 minutes to kill before I leave home, I'm more likely to beat up some bad guys in Castle Crashers than Batman: Arkham Asylum.
There's another reason I'd like to see these games on the Vita. Personally, I know several people who don't want to make time for downloadable titles. Even when these games receive critical acclaim, they'd rather spend their gaming time working on "real" games (their words, not mine.) As much as I love these games, I think that's fair enough. Some people prefer to play games "worthy of HD" on their HDTV. On top of that, some people don't have as much time to play video games as I do, or at least don't make as much time for them. If I played video games less than 10 hours every week, I'd probably be more selective about what I made time for, too. That said, I could see people like this buying some of these titles on a handheld. Sure, iPhone games are usually less than $3.00, but the games on XBLA & PSN are much more enjoyable, in my opinion. Who knows, maybe they'd purchase these games if they could play them on the go.
If I could play games like Trials HD, Castle Crashers, Braid, PixelJunk Shooter, Shadow Complex, Plants vs. Zombies, Limbo, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Super Meat Boy, and Bastion on a Playstation Vita, I'd save my money and buy one. Of course, I'd like some newer "downloadable games" too, not just the stuff I've already played.
What about you: Would you be interested in playing games like this on a handheld? Any games in particular?
