The 2012 GIO Census

(Thanks to Cybertronian Assassin for the fantastic banner)

UPDATE: There are only three more days left in the Census! It all ends on the 31st, so get out there and vote! The participation so far has been great, but with your help, it can be even better.

A few of reminders:

Question #31 has been removed from the Census. This gives you, the voter, more time to participate. (And also ensures my safety from disgruntled editors)

Look for the recap blog to go up early January. This jumble of statistics will include many a graph, thoughts on the results, and quotes from the voters.

If for any reason something doesn't work for you, or if you just have a question, shoot me a message and I'll try my best to help you out.

So please, take a few minutes of your time and make this project a success.

Ever wonder just how many people are on Gameinformer Online? This is a project that will (hopefully) answer that question, and maybe a few others as well. Think of it as a sort of census; a series of polls that paint a much clearer picture of the GIO landscape.

The gist is this: starting today and then once a day thereafter, a question in the form of a poll will be posted in the forum section for the rest of the site to vote on. Voting lasts until the 31st of December, after which the results will be tallied, and this blog updated.

Naturally, the success of these polls depends entirely upon the amount of people participating, and their willingness to cast a vote every day. That said, I'm confident that the community will create enough of a turn out to give us a well rounded (if not complete) view of our favorite site.

The goal of all this is to give us an idea of how our favorite site changes from year to year. Whether the number of GIOers increases one year, or the Wii U becomes the console of choice the next, stats like these can be as useful as they are fascinating.

THE CENSUS IS OVER! Click here for the recap blog.

  • Question: Why is everything written in webdings?
  • Dafuq I just didn't understand how to read....
  • Cool idea, definitely some interesting questions. I'll be voting every day. :)
  • Quick question: On AshaMan3000's question, I have a PS3 and DS. Do I qualify as a single console gamer? Just wondering.
  • I imagine this would be more accessible if people could read it...
  • Seems interesting. I'll make sure to vote.
  • Alright, I think I had the text formatted wrong. (hence some people's inability to read the questions) I have reformatted, and hopefully everything is now legible.

And to anyone who is still searching for the link to the poll; simply click on the question you want, and you will be taken there. (Note that this is the first day and therefore only one question is available)

So sorry for any inconvenience. First day troubles and all:P
  • Random/Comment 2016
  • Nice. Glad to see this put together. And, voted! I'll be sure to check out the others.
  • I really like that Yoda pie chart! Nicely done Darth, I'll be keeping an eye out for the rest of the questions. :)
  • Cool thing you're doing here, and I voted.
  • Why is everyone having issues with the format? I have no problem reading it at all. Anyway, this is a great idea and I already voted for the first poll and I'll keep coming back for the others.
  • 1. PS3 2.I play both kinds. 3. Sometimes, but not a lot. 4. Never betray Sony. That's ridiculous. 5. I hope it doesn't come out for a while, but I'll get the ps4. 6. NO. Console is the thing. 7.any. All, but I'm not a big music or horror fan. 8.both. Kind of depends of the game. 9. I really like rockstar and bioware, but naughty dog is my favorite. 10. Kind of yes, but metal gear is pretty great. 11. A little. If they're on, I'll probably join them. 12. If it's the summer, 31 plus, but now would be 16-20 hrs. 13. Ignore, but a good yo mama joke doesn't hurt. 14. Normal gamepad 15. Never, but don't ask me that about movies 16. Combination. 90 percent new, 8 percent owned, 2 percent download. 17. Maybe, but I ain't stopin. 18. My brother and a cousin of mine love playing them to. The rest don't care. My mom watched me play all of uncharted 2. And my dad watch me on red dead redemption, and black ops. Also, they'd play sports game. 19. No. I'm for co-op, but i like it how it is, 20. None, but I always keep coverage of E3. 21. I'm against them because developers work years to make the game. They don't need to start fixing it on day 1. 22. No 23. Yes. Demos/betas are quite helpful. 24. No, because I don't want to play 20 bucks or more to play something I all ready pay 60 bucks for all ready. 25. Less than a year. About 8 months. 26. All the above. Probably looking at articles. 27. None really. Out of curiosity, why's borderlands on this list. 28. Hardly. I do contact people on ps3. 29. 6-20, but it'll be 20 plus soon. 30. Probably the reviews, even if I don't agree with them all the time. 31. It'll wither be Andrew Reiner and Matt bertz. Don't ask for my least favorite. Woah, done. That was fun. Happy I participated.
  • Oh crap. I've always been told to read instructions. This is one time I didn't. Sorry about this. I was about to say wasted my time, but I still voted. Oh well. It was great to vote.
