I Wrote a Blog, and I Kinda Liked It

So, yeah, not too recently-but recently enough-I wrote my first blog about whether or not blogging on gi.com was a worthwhile endeavor. While I did not articulate every thought or opinion I have on this subject perfectly, I suppose I summed the feeling up well enough. (Here is said Blog if you wish to peruse it yourself )http://www.gameinformer.com/blogs/members/b/cornerstorefacade_blog/archive/2012/01/27/to-blog-or-not-to-blog.aspx

So what happened?

Well, some interesting stuff. I didn't get a response from a great number of people, but I did get a few responses. And (to my surprise) basically all of them were-if not thoughts I agreed with-at least thoughts that were rational and plausible enough to merit an engagement or discussion.  Now, don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting COMPLETE D-Baggery (but close), but after looking at some of the comments on the site, etc., this was a pleasant surprise.

My other main concern was internet "people". And I don't know quite how to describe this. Suffice to say, I've been kicked out of one or two internet groups simply because I, well, don't play by the rules. Internet people seem to have their own little tribes, and they seem to have their own rules as to why people can join, or not, or stay a member. Evidently you can't upset the status quo too much in these groups. Or you will be eliminated (See: Overblood/Replay Facebook group). So it remains to be seen how this plays out.

Bottom line, (as the title suggests), I wrote a Blog and I liked it. (And yes, the Katy Perry is deliberate. I am a sucker for her song Teenage Dream. But that's it, so lay off). We'll see how it goes from here.

  • Can I just say two things? One is that this, IMO, a hidden disguise of bumping a blog back to the top of the page. Bumping isn't usually allowed unless it's an event of some kind (like FragFest), or if it's an ongoing thing, like either you made some major improvements on that one blog, or if it's a log where you document something, like your time in Skyrim. Two, we're probably the most open of the internet "tribes." Like what Mojo says on you previous blog, just participate. There are many things you can do here. You can be a reviewer for the games, or a member in the forums or here writing blogs. Don't try to write blogs for comments or views, blog because you want to blog. If blogging isn't your thing, don't do it. Just relax and enjoy your time here, make some friends.
