The lights are on
I've set out to write a short blog in order to elicit responses. This one is all about you.I've done some straight-up stupid things with my video game collection. I hinted at one such crazy decision in my last blog. Today I'm going to come clean. Let me preface this confession by saying that sometimes I don't think too clearly when it comes to the strange and bewildering world of video game trade-ins.
You see, a few years ago when Rock Band was all ablaze with popularity and party fun, my friends and I were all aboard the music-game crazy-train. I wasn't exactly bonkers, though. For instance, I didn't ever shell out the cash for any Beatles specific stuff or multiple cymbal add-ons or double bass pedals. When my original Rock Band drum set broke, however, and when the free replacement drum pads broke, right around the same time Rock Band 2 was released, I decided it was time to perhaps invest in the entire Rock Band 2 box set, instead of sticking with the loud and technologically dated Rock Band 1 set. I didn't have the money. So what did I do?What any completely insane person does. I traded in my PS2 and a bunch of games. I know. I'm ashamed. I feel the pangs of sorrow every time I look at the PS2 games that I still have. That's right. I still have a decent selection of PS2 games, but no PS2. That's not sane. And then I look at my rock band drum set collecting dust and cry.
While that is, by far, the most ridiculous thing I've done in the name of trade-ins, I have a track record of trading in games for new ones, only to miss the games that I traded.Okage, Suikoden III, Little King's Story, Baten Kaitos, Dragon Quest VIII, Xenosaga, and Metroid Prime: Corruption are just a handful of games that I wish I still had. I've traded in some less-than-stellar games also, so I haven't regretted all of my decisions. Just enough to be much more cautious with my actions around GameStop these days.
So, that's my confession. I hope I'm not alone. Have you ever regretted a trade-in? Or perhaps you've sold a game and regretted it. Let me know I'm not alone. Please.
While I do have a bit of nostalgia for a few PS2 games I traded in (Kingdom Hearts 2 comes to mind), I try not to think about them too much. If I do, then I actually do start to miss them.
I've been a little more careful about games I've traded in as of late, as not to make another dumb mistake.
