The lights are on

Hello hello there!
So I don't know how many of you caught it, but during the last episode of the indie and mojo show I announced my next project. Now unfortunately because I was having so much fun on the episode I misspoke a little bit. (said contest, meant challenge) But, here is the announcement though, in blog form.
This is going to be a weekly series that is designed to greatly improve the writing of anyone who follows it. Throughout the series I will be issuing challenges every week that are going to be designed to get the writers of the challenge out of our comfort zones and really focusing on our writing.
There are two ways that I will be doing this.
The first is that each week will be a different type of blog. Some weeks will be about finding a piece of news and talking about that. Other weeks will be opinion/editorial blogs on a hot issue. The key though is that I'll be trying to cover all the usual bases that a gaming journalist would be expected to write about. I think this is probably the more important of the two, because I find a lot of bloggers have one particular style of blog they like to do and that's it.
That is where the second part comes in. In addition to changing the style there will be limitations/expectations for every blog. Now this will vary from week to week. Some weeks will have word restrictions where you have to write a certain number of words. Others will be challenges where you have to use so many images in your blog. Regardless of the style, the challenge is there to focus the person on the writing itself rather than the topic, something I feel that a lot of bloggers neglect due to the fact that they worry more about what they are writing about.
Now I will say this. Even if no one else participates I will still be doing this. As I said at the very beginning, this is a series that I am working on to improve the quality of my writing. I will not force anyone to follow it, I won't be pulling teeth, or scolding a person if they can't do it every week. However, I personally believe that anyone who wants to write professionally at least should try the series.
I say this for two reasons. The first of which, is because I will be trying to work with various professionals of the industry on how to improve this and make it more like actual practice for writing. The second of which is because I will also be working with anyone who does this challenge to make sure that they are getting everything they want to get out of the challenge.
That is why I have set up the topic suggestion thread as well as the home thread in the writer's guild forum.
As for the way that I will be running this, every sunday I will put up a blog post highlighting the blogs of the people participating in the challenge, as well as announcing the challenge for the upcoming week. As I said, if you are interested in participating, but don't want to do every challenge, that is fine. I don't expect anyone to really do that.
All I ask is that if you are participating for the week that you let it be known by putting WGWC: before the title of the blogs for the challenge. This way I can quickly identify the blogs that are involved and don't have to search them out through people's profiles.
Also if you are below level 5 and are participating, just friend me, and send me a conversation where you link to your blog and I'll be sure to link it in the topic.
That is all you have to do if you want to participate. Think of it this way, if you're struggling for a topic for the week you'll always have this as a back-up lol.
That being said, the more you put into this, the more you'll get out of it. I know it seems like a lot of work, but really I'm going to make sure that it's not overboard (I will never ask for anything more than a 1200 word post, and even that would probably be a borderline 2 week challenge).
But you can all decide that for yourselves. The challenge starts this Sunday.
My vote for the challenge mascot
What is funny, I honestly don't know what to expect for this, and really for the first time in a while I have no idea how this is going to turn out. I am excited though for the opportunity to do this, and hopefully I can improve my own writing as well as help out anyone else that is looking to improve theirs.
So thank you in advance if you decide to participate, and even if you aren't going to participate still feel free to suggest topics. After all I am doing this for the community as well as for me, and would really like the feedback of the community for this.
Also if anyone has any interest in doing some graphic design work for this, please let me know. I would like to at least have some cool little profile badges made for people that participate in this, but unfortunately I lack the talent and software to do such a thing. So post on this blog, or send me a conversation and we can work it out (hopefully).
Thank you very much,
