Hello, GIO, and welcome to The Ladies of Dynasty Warriors: Conclusion, Part 7 of 7 blog! I hope you enjoy this blog, and if you wish to know more about me, feel free to visit my profile page!
For the past few weeks, I've been discussing all of the magnificent ladies of Dynasty Warriors. I've sung their praises and I've criticized their flaws, and now that I have discussed all of the ladies as of the latest title, Dynasty Warriors 8, I will now conclude with a brief summation of each kingdom's female roster and what I want to see in the future.
The Lethal Beauties of Wei
Zhen Ji: Zhen Ji (the one on the right) is the wife of Cao Pi, and the first Empress of the Kingdom of Wei. She is a refined and elegant, and sometimes snobbish, noble lady who was the first female character for Wei in Dynasty Warriors 3. Her pros include her elegant (sometimes) outfits, her improving attitude from game to game, and the return of her classic weapon. Her cons are that even though she is improving, she is still pretty uppity and snotty, which is a pretty big con for me, and she also is often "trashy" looking. Even though her outfits are most of the time gorgeous, somehow or other the execution of her looks end up making her look trashy and even cheap. As far as what I want to see in the future, as I said in the Wei blog, she is actually really a classy and elegant lady, so I would LOVE to see her future outfits reflect that. I'd also like to see her attitude continue to improve.
Cai Wenji: Cai Wenji (the one in the middle) is a kind, artistic, poetic woman who was rescued by Cao Cao. She is the second woman to be a playable character for Wei and she made her debut in Dynasty Warriors 7 (at least in America). Her pros are that she is very kind and sweet, she is very intelligent and artistic, and she has pretty great outfits that reflect her reserved personality. The cons are that she has an awkward weapon and she is not seen often enough in the games. I'd personally like to see her more in the games, because Koei made a pretty good character, so I would definitely like to see her featured more.
Wang Yi: Wang Yi (the one on the left) is a fierce, revenge-driven warrior whose only reason for living is seeing Ma Chao bleed. She is the third woman to be a playable character for Wei, making her debut in Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends. Her pros are that she is an amazing warrior woman kind of character, and that she is a tough, confidant, yet elegantly beautiful woman. I also like her weapons pretty well. The only con that I can see is that she is sometimes a bit TOO blood-thirsty in her quest for vengeance. I'd love to see her future looks to continue to be tough and beautiful, but Koei needs to be careful not to go overboard with her psychotic-ness.
What I Want To See In The Future: Before I started writing this blog series, I wanted a tough, true warrior for Wei, but now that Wang Yi is here, I started wondering what Wei needed now. After some consideration, I found that these women are generally pretty serious, so I thought that a fun, energetic kind of lady would be a great addition to this stellar cast of characters.
The Dangerous Vixens of Wu
Sun Shang Xiang: Sun Shang Xiang (the one on the right) is the daughter of Sun Jian and the younger sister of Sun Ce and Sun Quan. She is also the wife of Liu Bei. She is one of two female characters to have been in the series since the very first game, and she has been in the game up to Dynasty Warriors 8. She is a rough and tumble tomboy princess who is just as fierce in battle as her father and brothers. Her pros are that she is tough, yet still a bit feminine, confidant, and that her weapons have been brought back. Her cons are that she has been made WAY too feminine in the past, but I admit, she is looking much better now. My only wish is that Koei doesn't go down the road of being too feminine with her, but yet they still make her feminine even though she is a major tomboy.
Da Qiao: Da Qiao (the second one from the left) is one of the famous "Two Qiaos" and was well known for her beauty. She is the sister of Xiao Qiao and the wife of Sun Ce, and she is also the second woman to be a playable character for Wu, her first appearance being in Dynasty Warriors 3. She is demure and proper and does not like going into battle if she can help it. Her pros are her mature personality and her pretty outfits. Her cons are that, like her sister, is looks very young, and I don't particularly like her pugil sticks. I'd much rather see her with her traditional fans. In the future, I hope that they will change her weapon, and more importantly, either keep her looking as old as she looks or to "grow her up".
Xiao Qiao: Xiao Qiao (the one on the left) is one of the famous "Two Qiaos" and was well known for her beauty. She is the sister of Da Qiao and the wife of Zhou Yu, and she is also the third woman to be a playable character for Wu, her first appearance being in Dynasty Warriors 3. She is fun and gregarious and brings a lot of energy to this cast of ladies. Her pros are that she is fun and that she has sometimes pretty outfits. Her cons are that she is using a single iron fan now as a weapon, and I preferred her two large fans, and that she looks WAY too young! She even acts that way as well. I'd definitely love to see her in the future looking and acting more mature, but still keeping with her fun-loving personality.
Lian Shi: Lian Shi (the second one from the right) is Sun Shang Xiang's bodyguard and best friend. She is the fourth woman to be a playable character for Wu, and she made her debut in Dynasty Warriors 7. She is a kind, soft-spoken, proper, and protective warrior whose purpose in life is protecting the Sun Clan from harm. Her pros are that she has an AWESOME personality and that she has a pretty decent weapon. My main con with her are her outfits. Her outfits are way too revealing and in my opinion, somewhat demeaning. In the future I would definitely NOT change her personality, but she really needs a makeover that reflects her awesome personality and not take away from it by being ridiculously risque.
What I Want To See In The Future: After taking these girls into consideration, I decided that one kind of girl that I would love to see for Wu would be an elegant, noblewoman type of character. Another kind of character that would be good for Wu would be a true "warrior" kind of lady. After looking at Wu and considering the fact that many of the people of Wu are sea-faring folk, I also thought that a good female pirate would be pretty awesome as well.
The Femme Fatales of Shu
Yue Ying: Yue Ying (the one on the left) is the first playable woman for Shu, her debut being in Dynasty Warriors 4. She is the wife of Zhuge Liang. She is an intelligent, capable woman who has made many inventions that have helped Shu in battle. Her pros are that she is a very intelligent character with a decent weapon and a FANTASTIC look in the current game. Her cons are that she sometimes comes off as a bit boring, and even though she has a bit of a "fieriness" to her, it often seems subdued. I'd like to see her looking as great as she does in the future, and more importantly, I'd like to see her mature, polite personality but with a bit of an edge and fieriness.
Xing Cai: Xing Cai (the one on the right) is the second playable woman for Shu, her debut being in Dynasty Warriors 5. She is a fierce, warrior woman who has sworn to protect her country and her lord, Liu Shan. The pros are that she is a very no-nonsense or frills warrior woman, but yet she still LOOKS like a woman. She's also not one that lets her emotions rule her in a battle, and she has pretty decent weapons to boot. The only con that I see with Xing Cai is that I would like to see her, the most warrior-like woman of the Shu women, wear more armor in the future.
Bao Sanniang: Bao Sanniang (the second from the left) is a fun, energetic, confidant girl who optimistically joins the battle, especially if her love interest, Guan Suo, is there. She is the third woman to be a playable character for Shu, and she made her debut in Dynasty Warriors 7. Her major pro is her fun-loving personality, and her cons are her not-to-impressive, and skimpy, outfits and her weapon is INCREDIBLY ridiculous. In the future, I'd love to see her get a new weapon, and I'd also like to see an outfit that matches her carefree, fun personality while still keeping her covered.
Guan Yinping: Guan Yinping (the second from the right) is the fourth woman to be a playable character for Shu, and she is one of the two new women to the series. She is the daughter of Guan Yu and the sister of Guan Ping, Guan Xing, and Guan Suo. She is the nice, tough new girl on the block and she seems to be a pretty strong addition to Shu's roster. Her pros are that she has a pretty great "girl next door" sort of personality and her look is AMAZING. The only con I have is that her weapon is a bit cumbersome to use. I definitely think that she has started off strong, so I would very much like to see this continue in future titles.
What I Want To See In The Future: The Shu girls are a pretty amazing bunch, but after looking at them, I have some suggestions for possible future girls. I think that a nice refined lady would be a good way to offset this amazing roster. Another that would be good, and may go hand-in-hand with the refined lady, would be a shy girl. All of these ladies are pretty confidant, so a possibly shy, and maybe elegant as well, type of lady would be a good addition to this incredible cast of characters.
The Deadly Enchantresses of Jin
Wang Yuanji: Wang Yuanji (the one on the right) is a capable, intelligent, and hard-working woman who was set to be Sima Zhao's companion. She debuted with the rest of the Jin cast in Dynasty Warriors 7. Her pros are that she has a proper, mature, and intelligent kind of attitude and her outfits generally reflect that personality. She also has decent weapons. Her cons are that she can sometimes come off as a bit cold and emotionless, and her outfits are often a bit too revealing in the bust area. In the future, I'd mainly like to see her outfits altered a bit in the bust area, and other than that, she's actually a pretty solid character.
Zhang Chunhua: Zhang Chunhua (the one on the left) is the second woman to be a playable character for Jin and one of two new women to the series. She is the proper, beautiful, and sometimes frightening wife of Sima Yi and mother of Sima Shi and Sima Zhao. Her pros are that she has a pretty interesting and deep personality and she's a pretty tough lady, especially if you upset her. Another pro is her outfit. She has an outfit that is beautiful and matronly, but still edgy and sexy, which I think really reflects her personality well. Her only con is that she can come of a bit creepy, especially with her ideas of "punishment". I'd love to see more of Zhang Chunhua in the future, and I think that there really isn't anything at the moment that I'd want to change about her.
What I Want To See In The Future: Since this is a new kingdom with much fewer characters than other kingdoms, there are many new possible ladies that could be added to Jin. I have two main kind of ladies that I would like to add, the first being a fun, laid back girl to offset the current two stern beauties. Another type of girl that would be a good addition to Jin would be a true warrior type of woman to offset the current refined, elegant ladies.
The Fatal Sirens of the "Other" Kingdom
Diao Chan: Diao Chan (the one on the left) is the dancer to the tyrant Dong Zhuo and the lover of the most infamous warrior of the time, Lu Bu. She is one of two ladies that has been in the series since the very first game, and she has been in every game since. She is a sweet and demure seductress who is tasked with seducing and assassinating the despot Dong Zhuo. Her pros are that she has a great, established personality and she is very beautiful (except for her current look). She also has a pretty great weapon. Her main con right now is that her current look is a hot mess. In the future, I wouldn't change a thing about her personality, but I would like to see her in an outfit that was better put together and reflected her demure, sweet personality.
Zhu Rong: Zhu Rong (the one on the right) is the second woman to be a playable character for the "Other" Kingdom and she made her debut in Dynasty Warriors 3. She is the fiery, aggressive self-proclaimed daughter of the God of Fire and wife to the Nanman King Meng Huo. Her pros are that she often has the most interesting, if a bit skimpy, outfits in the series, her personality is very "her", and I also like the fact that they brought her original weapon back. Her only con is that sometimes, like with her current outfit, her outfits fall short of being incredibly amazing. I would definitely like to see more of her fiery personality, as long as she doesn't become obnoxious, and her amazing tribal looks, as long as it doesn't go X-rated on us.
What I Want To See In The Future: As I said in the "Other" Kingdom blog, it's interesting trying to find what kind of new ladies you want in the future for a kingdom whose roster is a bunch of random, unaffiliated characters. Based on offsetting the current girls, I'd like to see something sort of in-between these two girls, like a nice, yet strong girl. Another girl that I think would go over well would be a funny, playful, lighthearted girl. That kind of girl would offset the current two really well, I think.
Dynasty Warriors is a series with a vast array of female characters. As of Dynasty Warriors 8, there are 15 playable female characters in the game, with hopefully more on the way! Throughout this blog series, we've seen many different kinds of ladies ranging from elegant to playful to fierce, proving that Koei has made a roster that everyone can appreciate and respect. It also proves that no matter if you are a veteran fan or a new-comer to Dynasty Warriors, you are guaranteed to like at least ONE of these beautiful ladies. In this series I have discussed what I've liked and disliked about the current ladies as well as discussed what I want to see in the future for this amazing series. I hope you have had as much fun reading my blogs as much as I have had writing them, and I hope that they have gotten you to thinking about who YOUR favorite characters are, and why you like them so much! I appreciate all who have read these blogs, and if you would like to share your thoughts with me, or would just like to shout out who your favorite Dynasty Warriors girl is, feel free to leave me a comment below! Thanks! :)
