The Oddball: An Original Gaming Experience

So for all who don't know, my name's Jason Pfitzer, and I'm the new graphic designer at Game Informer. I started working here roughly 3 months ago, and am absolutely loving it.

I decided it would be a good idea to start this blog, because a lot of the games I like to play in my spare time are unpopular, unheard of, or downright bizarre. It is for this very reason that I feel as if they desperately need to be shared.

This isn't a blog full of spite towards popular, big-title games like Assassin's Creed, Halo or Call of Duty. The thing is, I find it hard to drop sixty dollars on any game. Being a poor college student, I searched far and wide for an enjoyable, affordable gaming experience. Because I am still poor, although I am no longer a student, I continue to search for indie games, older games, and mods to keep my gaming life interesting for relatively cheap.

I plan to post new reviews, opinions, and random stories as often as I am able. If you guys have any questions or recommendations, feel free to pop over to my profile and say hi, or shoot me an e-mail!

Current games I'm playing (I'm strictly a PC gamer at this moment):

  • cRPG - A highly enjoyable mod of "Mount & Blade: Warband"
  • DayZ - A zombie apocalypse realism mod for "Arma II"
  • Madballs In: Babo Invasion - A super weird, corny little top down shooter that has some of the most enjoyable multiplayer I've experienced in a long time

  • Well, nice to meet you and glad to read what you post. As for cRPG, I've heard of it but never tried it. I've played vanilla Mount and Blade, but never Warband. I tried DayZ, and while it was certainly an impressive undertaking, I guess you could say it's not my cup of tea. And Madballs...... I've never heard of it at all! I might try it though. I look forward to reading what you post next, and I hope you settle in quickly. Cheers! :)
  • I've never known where to even start finding out anything about these sorts of games, so I really appreciate this!

  • There are some awesome video games out there that remain in obscurity, so I think it's cool that you play those kind of games. I look forward to reading your blogs in the future! :)

Ah, a fellow PC gamer...sweet. DayZ is amazing and part of the reason I like PC gaming so much. How many of our great games started out as mods. Anyway, look forward to your future content.

  • Great to see you on here! I didn't know staff members could post to the user blogs section. Or I guess I mean they can (It's their site, of course), but didn't think it was done. Learn something new every day. :)

Hey Jason, welcome to GI and welcome to the greatest gaming community in the Galaxy and beyond!

If you ever need a coop buddy for one of those oddball gaming experiences...

  • Welcome to GIO Jason! I find most of my oddball games on Steam. How about you?
  • Congrats on your new job! Two games that I find would fit with your project are Slender (which is getting a lot of press lately) and The Path by Tale of Tales (http://tale-of-tales.com/ThePath/). Bizarre games really interest me, too.
  • I can relate. I only buy about 3-4 games brand new a year. The rest I either rent or get when the price drops.

  • Congrats on the job internship! You are living a lot of our dreams. Could you maybe right a blog one day about PC games that run on lower end computers?
