Joker's Daughter Makes New 52 Debut

by Andrew Reiner on Aug 30, 2013 at 07:42 AM

Duela Dent has claimed to be the daughter of Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Scarecrow, Two-Face, and Riddler. After joining the Teen Titans, she changed her name to Harlequin. Yes, she is one of the most confusing characters in all of comics. That's why most people refer to her as "Joker's Daughter."

She made her New 52 debut this week in Catwoman #28's "No Blood No Foul" story. She only appears on the last page of this issue, giving us no hints of who she is. Since she seems to be one of DC's most misguided characters, it'll be interesting to see if she gets reworked for New 52. Over the last two years, DC has used this new universe to give several characters facelifts and new lives.

I'm hoping DC latches on to the Joker's daughter plot thread started in Rocksteady's Arkham games. During Arkham City's credits sequence, Harlequin is heard singing to a baby, which is believed to conceived by her and the Joker. Players who re-entered the game also found a crib and positive pregnancy tests scattered across the floor. The Arkham City DLC painted a different picture with pregnancy tests reading negative, so that plot thread may have been squashed. We'll have to wait and see what Rocksteady has planned next.

I like the idea of Joker's Daughter actually being Joker's daughter. We'll have to wait and see if she ends up being the continuity-shattering mess we know her as, or if she gets a fresh start.
