The lights are on
Originally, I was going to try and write my top 10 favorite games of all time. But I could not pick. I just kept changing my mind and I will end up editing this post a million times. So instead, I looked back at a few of the games that took a lot of time up in my life. I figured it’s a great way to build a solid list based on stats rather than trying to choose. I’ve also included some memories of that time spent with each title. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (Xbox)Ahh yes. While I cannot be totally sure, I’m thinking this is the game I’ve logged the most amounts of hours in. I’m pretty sure I explored every nook and cranny that world had to offer. Sometimes I was good, doing noble quests and helping my fellow citizens. I even cleared a rat or two out of some cellars for a modest price. But let’s be clear, I was also a huge turd. I even murdered a poor old orc lady for her house so I could store all of my crap. The sheer amount of content in the game not only meant that I had plenty to do and see, but also plenty of items and customization to obsess over. I’d also like to give Oblivion a special shout out for sucking me back into the same world of time burning.Battlefield 2 (PC)Really for me, BF2 is the apex of multiplayer awesomeness. I don’t mean this to sound like I think it’s the greatest multiplayer game of all-time, but more that for me as a fan of FPS games online, this had the biggest effect. A close friend of mine and I would spend hours, upon hours running as our faux gaming clan known as The Handsome Male Actors or <HMA> and I played as GeorgeClooney and he played as Brad Pitt.Final Fantasy VII (PS1)As cliché as it may be, this is my favorite JRPG. I love it. Everything that made this game a success like the epic story, innovative graphics and great battles cause me to become an instant fan. I even played hooky from school for a pretty long time just to play it. Sorry Mom!Super Mario World (SNES)II think the Super Nintendo is probably my favorite game system. And when I got one with a copy of Super Mario World, I could have just played that forever and been fine. The platformer was never outdone in my mind. There have been many greats since but in the end, it all comes back to 16-bit Mario.SimCity 2000 (PC)How could this not be on there? The hours upon hours I spent tweaking every aspect was insane. And that doesn’t count the times I would leave it running to earn tons of cash while I slept (it usually ended in disaster). I always named my cities something like Nickland or Nickville. Pretty original, I know. I’d also always take my mayor’s house and put it on a private island surrounded in trees with a moat. Only the best for the emperor of Nickland I guess.
Yes, to all 5.
Handsome Male Actors has to be the greatest clan name ever created. Ever.
I think they stole everyone's life. And I loved Battlefield 2 on the PC. 64 PLAYER MATCHES! Woo. Let the grenade spam fly.
@ Sean
i second that!
Yes.
morrowind consumed my life for a long, long time...and oblivion did the same. final fantasy 7 blew me away and it still dose, probably the game that made me a fan of RPG's and a devout follower of all things Square.
Oh man, Sim City 2000. I haven't played that game in a long time but I remember pooring more hours than I'd care to admit into it. I've also played the heck out of FFVII and SMW. Never played the other 2.
Outside of MMO's, I probably spent the most time playing Super Smash Bros. Melee. In terms of one play session, I spent around 9 hours straight playing Shadow of the Colossus since I was so happy getting my PS2 and SotC that I forgot to pick up a memory card, and I didn't want to turn it off until I've beaten them all.
I've only played 1 game on your list Super Mario World AWESOME!
My son and I were just talking about BF2 last night. That game sucked months out of my life.
I agree with you on the last three, though I've never cut school just to play them (I've cut school to cut school though). I haven't played Battlefield 2 and I've barely scratched the surface on my copy of Morrowind. I'm no good with long bouts of lonesome gaming.
Chin up, I bet there will be many more games to lose yourself in come this season!
I cant agree with final fantasy. For me the best JRPG had to be tales of symphonia.
Well for sure I played FFVII and SMW to death, those are good additions. I also see that you too never played Parappa the Rappa! Come one fellas this is killin me here! Show da love!
All great selections. Here are mine (great idea for a potential blog, by the way...)
1 - Zelda Ocarina of Time (had to get EVERYTHING)
2 - Final Fantasy VI (every monster for Gau's RAGE attack)
3 - Perfect Dark (multiplayer was God, had to get the highest rank)
4 - Super Smash Bros. Melee (my friends could NOT vanquish my Link!)
5 - Phantasy Star Online ('Nuff Said)
Super Mario was the first video game i ever played. So many hours and i don't remember ever passing it :)
Too bad SMB3 is better than World...
Where is my 200th issue? I will sit by my mailbox until it arrives. *sits in the rain*
I used to think lack of internet and technology in general was a curse.. but now... I realize that I have surely lived at least 1 more ear of my life because of that! SHEESH
I will assume that we do not count MMO's into this list. My WoW time is no longer measured in hours, but day's. Past 70 now I think...
I compliment you on your innovative idea to list the games we spent or continue to spend the most time on. I daresay that might enlighten some of us as to what are truly our favorite games, despite what we think they may be. It is much easier to recall games of this category rather than from the traditional "favorite games" list. Ahem...
The games that have taken the most time from Lucky's life (again, excluding a certain MMO.) are, in no particular order:
-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Beat it many times.
-Metal Gear Solid. Lost count a long time ago.
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Got EVERY dog tag (yes, on EVERY difficulty setting.)
-Super Mario Bros. 3. I had this game down to the step. I had a well-paved path right to Bowser... er the princess...
Command & Conquer. This refers to the whole series. Might not count as the same stat, but I'm not sure which entry I've logged the most time into. Probably RA2...
Wanna hear something scary? My WoW time probably accounts for more hours than all of the above cumulative game time COMBINED! Bleh...
i agree with you
I have to agree with every game that is on your list. I have to say, Final Fantasy games take a long time to beat and there is so much to do afterwords with optional missions and sidequests. They really give you the bang for your buck.
