CosBlog 26: Vanessa Arrevillaga As Jill Valentine

This week’s CosBlog sees Vanessa Arrevillaga dressed as Jill Valentine in her iconic STARS uniform. Additionally, we’ve got a funny twist on another popular Resident Evil Character - Zombie Girl. In Resident Evil 2 you may have noticed a lack of diversity in Raccoon City’s population – namely that most of the undead are copies of each other. Cosplayer Shirak pays tribute to the female zombie in Raccoon City for the official Capcom zombie walk in her native London. Enjoy!

Who: The Character
Jill Valentine is a video game character from the Resident Evil survival horror series. The version of Jill that I cosplay as is of her in her STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) uniform which she wore in the first Resident Evil game. (S.T.A.R.S.)

Why: The Decision
I wanted to cosplay as Jill Valentine because like my favorite video game heroine, Lara Croft, she was also tough, smart, and fearless. Any women that can handle a gun, and outwit their enemies with her fighting skills is awesome in my book.

What: The Process
It took a few weeks to gather everything I needed for the costume because I had to get all the materials from different places.

The beret was ordered online along with the patches, the shirt was found at Target, the pants found at Wal-Mart in the boys section, the herbs I bought at Michaels Arts and Crafts and painted them red, green, and blue, the fabric and straps for the shoulder pads were bought at JoAnns Fabrics and I sewed and assembled them myself which was probably the most difficult thing to do. I already had the shotgun and pistol since I also airsoft. And the gloves and holster were from my Lara Croft cosplay so they were just re-used for this costume.

Where and When: The Debut
I haven't debuted this costume at a Con yet cause there have been other more recent costumes that I have used instead. But hopefully soon, it will.

The photoshoot was done by Mike from Blanklogo Photography. I don't exactly remember the location of the place where we shot because we were just driving around until we came upon an abandoned house. We went inside and into the backyard and that is where we got our shots.

Bonus! Shirak as Zombie Girl

Who: The Character
Zombie Girl from Resident Evil 2.

Why: The Decision
I always loved the Resident Evil series, particularly the second videogame. Halloween was coming up, so I decided to make a zombie from Resident Evil instead of a random one.

What: The Process

I used some warm red fabric for the top, since I was going to wear it in London on the 31st of October; that day wasn't too cold though. I bought a very nice brown wig that was too long, so I had to cut it and style it. It's a very simple costume, but all the small detail are really important.

I didn't use very heavy makeup for that so it could look more natural and real (instead of just a very white face with blood).

Where and When: The Debut
I was planning to celebrate Halloween in London, so I had it ready for that. Nevertheless, someone told me about the Capcom Zombie walk that was going to be at the Tate Modern Gallery that day, so since I had done that costume, I thought it was a great idea to show up.

  • Yay, it's the old Jill costume!  I was a little worried it would be the  simpler RE5 one.  Not that there's anything wrong with it, I just like the STARS costume more.

Now I feel like playing Resident Evil.  Or Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

  • That's some cool stuff.

  • That is totally awesome!  Kudos to you guys for your dedication and have fun.

  • There is something sexy about a woman with a gun

  • Hell to the yeah the shotgun adds to the flavor of the costume, should have had her fighting off some zombie dobermans or something, maybe hunters?!?! Job well done.

  • I'm not seeing the shoulder pad harness/push-up cinch in the original costume, but I guess it was necessary... and a great addition XD

  • Nothing wrong with a little push-up.

  • Ok nerd moment here. I know that thats the "poster child" zombie chick from RE2 but didn't the one in the game have a blue top and jean shorts? I'll play it again tonight since I know theres one female zombie on the way to the police station.

Ok regarding the Jill costume can anyone think of an actual reason for Jill to have those shoulder pads? Is the shoulder a very high risk area when your going to deal with what should be armed criminals? Maybe zombies but she didn't know that at the time!

  • Yeah, zombies gravitate towards shoulders.  They're like cake to the undead.

  • Another great one Megan. The Jill cos-play really reminds me of the Marvel vs Capcom 2 version of Jill, she just really looks like the MvC2 Jill, I just can't explain it. Another great cos-blog in the books Megan, keep it up!

  • I would have preferred The blue dress to the S.T.A.R.S. uniform but this works.

  • the jill valentine is pretty spot on if you ask me, good stuff!

I think its pretty cool that she was able to get most of her materials at like Target and Micheals.

the zombie girl is cool too

  • She's HOT!

  • Epic Jill cosplay. How do people do these?
