CosBlog #9: Big Daddy and Little Sister by Volpin Props

Fanboys (and girls) are a special breed in the gaming world. With their zealous enthusiasm they single-handedly have the ability to make or break games, breathe life back into flailing franchises and (if they use their powers for evil) start flame wars across the Internet. Their undying devotion for a developer, game or character has spawned web-rings, epic works of art and the desire to participate in the ultimate fan tribute – cosplay. This weekly blog highlights some of the best cosplay found around the net. These fans put their blood, sweat and tears into their work, and it shows.

I’m throwing the format out the window this week – not wanting to sit on this epic set of photos long enough to secure an interview with the folks over at Volpin Props. Being fairly connected to the Cosplay scene, I first saw pictures of these amazing BioShock costumes out of DragonCon. But the photos below, just posted this past Monday, take this amazing cosplay to a new level. After two months of negotiating with the PR reps at the Georgia Aquarium, Harrison Krix was able to bring his suit and his fiancée in for a photoshoot. Just goes to show how much a good location can add to an already fantastic costume. Check out the fruits of their labor below.

Who: The Character

Big Daddy and Little Sister from BioShock

What: The Process

Volpin Props has an extensive breakdown of the process of creating the costume, which you can read here. The Big Daddy suit is also for sale on eBay, if you have any spare cash around.

  • Wow, just wow. :)

Sweet! Is that taken at the Underwaterworld  at the MOA

  • very cool.

  • Dang... Spot on Cosplay, the best I've seen in your blog so far! This one was in just epic proportions.

    Thanks again Megan!

Thanks for the blog, and keep up the good work!

The costumes are amazing, and the setting makes it them even more so. I see they made sure the angles helped it seem that the Little Sister was indeed a lot littler than the Big Daddy. Very cool.

  • No...that's...impossible.  I can't believe that!

  • those are awesome

  • OMG that is sick

  • Only the most epic costume I have ever seen. Man I wish I could get one.

  • I would dress up as a little sister, just to be able to touch that big daddy suit...srsly.

  • I second "Wow, just wow." That's IN_F*CKING_CREDIBLE.

  • Wow, these costumes look really realistic.  They look really cool too.

  • What, something Bioshock related!? Why haven't I commented before?

Anyways, those are awesome. If only I wasn't poor, then I could buy the suit and put it on display in my exotic shark tank. Oh well.

  • Those are some amazing costumes, and deciding to take those pictures at an aquarium was an awesome idea.  That looks great.  So, Meagan, when we gonna see you rocking a Big Sister outfit?

  • holy shnikes!

  • @ Rick Masters - been thinking about it :D

  • Super awesome. And the fact that they did that at the Georgia Aquarium makes it sweeter for me, since that's my hometown. lol

  • This is definitely the best cosplay I've ever seen.

  •  The Big Daddy suit is incredible.  In some of the photos it looks more like a CGI character similar to Gollum from The Lord of the Rings than a guy in a costume.  The whole tone was ruined for me when I saw the Little Sister, though.  It would have been much cooler if they had been able to get an actual child to put on some make up and a costume.
