The lights are on

There's not a lot that I can say that hasn't been said better elsewhere, but I wanted to take a moment to express my sadness at the passing of Lou Reed. The Velvet Underground and his solo work had a profound effect on me as a writer and musician, and as a person. The Velvets completely changed how I viewed the aesthetics of rock music and still, 45 years later, sound as fresh today as they did then. He made beautiful poetry out of the seedy side of New York City, a world of freaks, junkies, transvestites, hustlers, and artists that is gone, and now so is he. I cannot imagine the world without him.
"and something flickered for a minute
and then it vanished
and it was gone"
Lewis Allan Reed
