A Few Examples Of Why I Gave 007 Legends A 4

Bashing a game in a review is never fun, but sometimes it's completely necessary. Whether it's the lowest score I've ever given, or a widely-liked game that I wasn't too hot on, no one here at Game Informer gets off on bashing a game just to bash it. This week, I posted a review for a very bad game. 007 Legends was riddled with bugs during my playthrough (on a final retail build, no less), but the comments on our recent Test Chamber episode demonstrated that some people didn't understand why it received the score it did. It seems that Reiner and Tim didn't run into many issues during their twenty minutes with the game, but I thought I'd make this blog to directly show what kinds of bugs I'm talking about.

I didn't have video capture equipment hooked up during my playthrough, and there's no audio on these cell phone videos because I was playing through headphones. Sorry for the quality.

I know henchmen are traditionally ineffective in Bond movies, but this is ridiculous.

Door handles drawn onto the texture like this was a Nintendo 64 game.

They couldn't even make the pause menu free of glitches.

Oh, so we're randomly going down to 10 frames per second? Cool.

"Hey, James! What's up?" Note that this man is supposed to be deceased.

Petting an invisible cat.

This guy is bad at being a guard.

Keep in mind that these are the occasions that I actually had my cell phone ready to capture. There were plenty of glitches and bugs that I didn't get photos or videos of. Hopefully these served to illustrate why 007 Legends received the low score that it did.

  • Man it does look bad.

  • Dan, I appreciate this further clarification/review addendum. While I didn't question your review score as valid, I had a hard time seeing why a game received a 4 mainly because of glitching issues.

And now I know. Unless they patch this somehow, they're apparently content to just waste everyone's time and money.

Thanks again for doing what you do, and going the extra mile here.
  • I was so disappointed that it did so poorly. I was really looking forward to it and the game looks like nothing that I anticipated :/

  • Jesus...that's awful.

  • This is disappointing. Goldeneye: Reloaded is a lot of fun I don't understand how they could have screwed this one up! It blew my mind during the test chamber video that there was a several minute long animated tutorial on how stealth works when its exactly the same as it was in Goldeneye.
  • acceptable on xbox.....not this gen. shame on them for rushing a game= not caring about the consumer or the quality of their work, only money

  • I thought I noticed AI issues during the Test Chamber, so I'm not too shocked.  Generic run and guns, no fun.

  • Bad, Activision! BAD!! Looks like I'll just replay GoldenEye Reloaded and Quantum of Solace for my Bond fix. *sigh*

  • Wow, that's bad.

  • ROFL.  Yeah...definitely didn't see any of this crazy stuff in the Test Chamber.  I think your 4 is justified Dan.

  • NO DAN. You are feeding us lies just so the game won't have success you sick, twisted human being. I hope You are forced to play Mario Party for 50 turns during the 24 hour Extra Life marathon on Saturday. Good day to you sir.
  • That's pretty bad. It's a shame because James Bond could be such a great franchise for gaming. You're still wrong about Resistance 3 though :)
  • Jeez, that's... that's really bad. Also, it is a little weird. I mean, say what you will about Activision's business model (I certainly have), but they at least put out consistently polished games (from a technical standpoint). It's odd that this one is so... unfinished.
  • thanks for posting this.. the test chamber didn't do the bugs justice, now i fully understand why you gave it a 4 lol, this is bloody ridiculous, the FPS drop and the door handles made me lol IRL

  • HAHAHA :D I FEEL BAD TO THOSE GAMERS WHO BOUGHT THIS DUMB GAME.
  • I was hoping you would do something like this because the game didn't look too bad when Tim played it in the test chamber. This is just awful.

  • Staff
Activision's handling of 007 does not have me optimistic for its Walking Dead game...
  • lol hillarious, terrible...but funny....the guy petting an invisible cat was the best.

  • I don't blame Test Chamber for making it seem better than it is. I think most of us realize that the staff tries to be as objective as possible and some games are just absolute crap
