Many of you know the frustration of having parents that don't really understand gaming culture. If you follow my Twitter account, you've probably already heard many of my dad's musings about video games and what I do for a living. While he's a very smart guy, virtually everything about the video game industry (and technology in general) frightens and confuses him. He flew up to Minneapolis recently to visit me, so I decided to take him to the office and record a Replay of sorts with him. We played five games, and he predictably hated all of them. Watch below to hear his pain.

Dead Space 2 - In this first video, I make the mistake of telling him we'll move onto the next game once he dies. I didn't realize that it would take him ten minutes to get through each room, so this turns into one of the longest 45 minutes of my life.
Katamari Forever - If normal games scare him, I assumed Katamari would be an absolute nightmare. He ends up hating it just as much as I expected in this short session with the game.
Bayonetta - He says that the only way a game could grab him right away is if it featured "a lot of nudity." Since Bayonetta shows some skin, will he find a way to enjoy such a ridiculous game? (Spoiler: no)
Heavy Rain - I thought that his biggest issue with this game would be the control scheme. Turns out he just really doesn't want to see Ethan naked.
God of War III - This one was a crap shoot. I tried to get him into the first God of War a few months ago and he despised it. Will he find something to like about Kratos' epic PS3 debut?

I bet Dan has an imprint of his hand on his face from all the facepalming he did throughout these.
Your dad can't be blamed for quitting GoW 1. I'm sure it was great in its own time when it first came out, but a few months ago I played all 3 of them at my friend's house via the God of War Collection and I came reeeally close to quitting altogether at that same part with the boxes. I was so tempted to skip straight to the 3rd one because that's the only one I had heard anything good about. But I played them all and only liked the 3rd one. I wish I would've played them when they came out because i would've liked them a lot more... but now they seem really outdated.
I think your media player hates me :(
I can watch them just only in about forty five second chunks before having to wait another ten minutes. Maybe it will work on my phone?
well my dad only plays donkey kong country and guitar hero, so even getting your dad to play Dead space is a feat of willpower
Hilarious. Dan and his dad are a brilliant comedic duo. Seriously though, major props for your dad sitting through those hard core games. Your dad is obviously a great guy. My favorite part had to be Heavy Rain.
Dan: What do you do when you wake up in the morning?
Dad: ***?
Please, please, make Dan's dad do a Super Replay of Def Jam: Fight for NY!!!
I wonder if he would like Flower?
Also, props to your dad- Jordan vs. Bird was in fact an EA game for the Commodore 64 and MS DOS. Just looked it up :)
I don't think I'll ever look at Dead Space 2 the same way again... Dan, you really sounded like you were going to lose your mind.
Your dad is ****ing hilarious. You need to hire him on the Replay crew...you need to have him sit in on a Super Replay sometime. You two are funny to listen too. I know the frustration it's like me with my dad lol.
My dad legitimately plays all of the Call of Duty games, and although it was slow and sad at first, he recently beat the mission "All Ghillied Up" in COD4 on veteran. Not only that, but he killed everyone in the level including the waves that walk by you while you lie prone in the field. I tried and I couldn't do that.
that was awesome!! XD yr dad is so funny. man, some of those parts were just as painful as watching my sister play games (which i cant do anymore cuz i go crazy lol)
Just wanna say your dad is awesome for doing something he knows he'll hate just because. I hope we'll get to see more of these in the future.
These have been, without a doubt, the funniest playthroughs I have ever seen -- I haven't laughed this hard since the Overblood Super Replay. Kudos Dan for putting your dad (and yourself) through these, you guys are a total riot.
Your dad is awesome.
Finally Dan has someone to laugh at his jokes!
On the replays you always make obscure references, and then there is an awkward silence. If funny to hear someone with you on the joke.
