It seems like light years since we did the magazine
redesign, but the truth is the Resistance 3 cover
marks the one-year anniversary for our new look.
And what a year it was. I would say it's our best 12-month
stretch of covers in Game Informer's history. The Epic Mickey cover sits on the wall
just behind my computer monitor, so it is always just a glance away. When we
designed that cover, I never thought it could be beat. We were starting
from the top, and from there on I thought we could only go down. How wrong I was. I still consider Epic Mickey to be
drop-dead gorgeous, but the past year has had some outstanding pieces of
video game art (not to mention a who's who of kick-ass games).
Following Epic Mickey, we had the eight classic covers for our 200th issue.
The L.A. Noire and Portal 2
issues used multiple perspectives to such amazing effect.
There were also endless examples of outstanding landscape design,
including our Dead Space 2, Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3, Dragon Age 2, and
Resistance 3 covers. And who could forget the crisp white covers of Batman:
We worked with Irrational Games to create the Bioshock: Infinite covers in the spirit of the Saturday
Evening Post. These take the cake. Breaking the mold and doing something
different really worked for these covers, and it just means we have to come up
with new ways to push our covers in the future.
That's what this is all about. What can we do next
to out-do ourselves? We have some ideas still left up
The developers deserve a lot of credit for our
covers, and I thank them for all their efforts to make sure
that Game Informer magazine covers stand above the rest.

1. Bioshock infinite (Him and her)
2. Portal 2
Great work, GI. All 12 were the best magazine covers I've ever seen. Here's looking forward to the next 12 amazing covers!
I would honestly have to say Portal 2 is my favorite cover just because of the ingenious(most likely spelled wrong) concept of having the blue and orange portals on seperate GI covers. Halo Reach was awesome just beacuse of the kick ass art for noble six.

The Bioshock one was particularly clever. I almost didn't recognize the magazine.
Bioshock. The only time I've gone out to collect all 3 covers.
I love the clean look of the zelda/mario/metroid covers as well as the Batman covers. Sometimes less is more. Keep it up!
The one thing I dont like about the REdesign is teh pitiful amount of Reviews...but besides that i like the redesign okay...
The covers are amazing. However, its likely thats not the real message you're trying to send here, Mr. McNamara. You're not fooling anyone by trying to sneak in the "Big Brain Games" book.
I have been a subscriber for about 10 years and the last year of GI has been bittersweet for me. The covers are without a doubt the best I have seen for GI and any other publication that I read, but this has also been the first year that I have been unable to read cover to cover. The material is okay though far from the best I've seen in past years, but the aesthetics just throws me off for some reason. It doesn't seem to pop like it used to and nothing draws my attention like it used to. I don't mean to harsh on it as I am still a subscriber and will continue my membership, but I really enjoyed the profiles of all the editors every month as well of some of the other stuff that got cut. Oh well.
Happy first year redesign anniversary game informer.Heres to another year!!!!!
im def going to go with the batman, dead space 2 and resistance ones, those kicked ass
My favorites were Epic Mickey and Bioshock: Infinite.
I have to say that Arkham City was my favorite cover, possibly because I just finished playing Arkham Asylum, so that was still fresh in my mind.
My second favorite would have to be the cover of the 200 greatest games issue. It evoked a bit of nostalgia and it was the perfect cover for contents.
I really like the ones that had one perspective of the picture on the front and another on the back. L.A. Noire and Portal 2 definately nailed this and it war incredible. I look forward to gettig gameinformer each month just to see the new cover as one of the main reasons. A good cover can really make a person want to buy a magazine and you guys definately know how to make good magazines covers and how to switch it upwhen it is in need of switching. I really like wrap around covers also. Did anyone for the 200th issue not get an all white one? I got Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City on the front and then it showed the mario on the back. Just curious because in the cover gallery it shows it as just all white with any of those older games. For some reason though the Resistance 3 cover just didnt seem as cool as the others did. I started getting gameinformer right at issure 200 so i liked all of them really but that Grand Theft Auto one i got and Resistance 3 werent too eye catchy. They seemed really dull. Halo Reach cover had dull colors but you guys nailed it with that one. Hope this feedback helps in some way with developing covers by seeing it from the readers point of view.

I love the new look. The covers are easy to love, but the reformatted innerds are quite lovely in their own right.
