I'm New Here

by AJ Moser on May 23, 2016 at 09:25 AM

I feel like taking nearly any position even remotely related to the games industry comes with the need to quantify your qualifications for said position in a succinct and timely fashion. I really don’t know if I can do that with this post

You may have asked, “What makes AJ Moser good enough to write about video games?” before clicking this post. To tell you the truth, I’m asking myself the same thing. I’m far from an expert when it comes to video games. Looking at Dwarf Fortress gives me a headache. I couldn’t figure out the Souls series until Dark Souls III. I’ve never put more than 10 hours into an MMO and one time I placed fourth at a local Super Smash Bros. tournament.

I’m just a guy who loves games and is a pretty decent writer. Here are a few things you need to know about me:

I rarely shut up. I have a tendency to ramble on about the things I love and get hyped out of my mind when I’m excited. I love Star Wars more than I love most people. I started gaming with stuff like Pong and Super Mario Land. My all-time favorite game is Pokémon Gold  (Sorry, Silver, you’re great too). And finally - I’m a new intern at Game Informer. Saying that alone fills my heart with pride and a sense of belonging in the community with all of us who love to play games.

What I’m trying to say is that when it comes to gaming, I like what I like and I know what I know. I feel like that’s all anyone can ask. But what I love most is the communal sense that comes from talking about games with people who share that same passion.

Coming to Game Informer to write about games represents a huge opportunity for me professionally as well as personally. I’ve been here for less than a week and have already engaged in a number of conversations about the world of video games that have shifted my perspective on the industry and even life itself.

I’m a fresh Michigan State University graduate with a hardcore love of video games. I want to write stories and have discussions that fuel the spirit we all share when talking about video games. I’m always curious what new game is blowing people away, what characters people are falling in love with, and what adventures there are to embark on. Gaming is a great hobby as the potential to learn and explore is endless. There are so many genres, stories, and experiences I know I have yet to take part in and that’s so exciting.

I really hope you’ll enjoy the work I put in here, because that’s what it’s all about. I want you to leave comments telling me why I’m wrong about something or why you connect with a story I share.

You can yell at me on Twitter at @AndMoser and find me usually sharing what I’m listening to or what I’m eating. People tell me I’m a funny guy and I think it’s usually accidental. I’m here this summer to learn, to have fun, to connect with the audience, and most of all to entertain you, dear reader, so let’s embark on this journey together!
