GI Show 141: THQ R.I.P., Ni No Kuni, Nintendo News

In this week's show we discuss the passing of THQ, plus Ni No Kuni and some Nintendo news.

First up, host Matt Helgeson is joined by Andy McNamara, Andy Reiner, and Matthew Kato to talk about the recent demise of THQ and the future of some of its franchises that were recently sold to the highest bidder.

Reiner returns in the second segment, joined by Kim Wallace, to talk about Kim's review of the highly anticipated collaboration between Level-5 and the legendary animation house Studio Ghibli. Kim didn't like the game as much as some, and it's an interesting debate about its relative merits.

Finally, Kyle Hilliard, Dan Ryckert, and Bryan Vore joined the show to talk about a spate of recent Nintendo announcements, which include new Zelda and Mario games for Wii U.

  • I've been waiting for a discussion of the first and third topics-always nice to hear you guys give your insight!

  • Poor THQ. Why did they have to go?...
  • Excellent show.

  • Matt Helgeson thank you so much for making quality content for all of us to enjoy, not only about videogames but the things that influence our world as much as the ones in game. I have been a fan ever since I accidentally clicked on a podcast thinking it was Replay, and I value it as one of the most in depth looks at the world that interests me. I just thought i should thank you for providing that.
  • will definitely listen to this show. All 3 topics I really want to hear about.

  • grrr... kinda spoilerish there kim...

  • Anyone else think the sound quality's a bit...off?

    Might just be me, though.

  • Goodbye THQ and Vigil.

    Hello Wind Waker HD!

  • :(

  • On one hand, I'm excited to get Ni No Kuni, but on the other, I'm kind of dreading all of the frustration that awaits. It sure does look amazing from what I've seen though.
  • Very sad for THQ indeed, they will be missed greatly. Hopefully their IP's and studios will do well under the new owners.

  • Everybody has their own opinion so...yeah. XD

  • Wow... what was Kim playing? It sure as hell wasn't Ni No Kuni. I'm about 15-16 hours in and I haven't experienced any of the issues with insta-kills, or unbalanced difficulty, or anything else that she talked about.

Honestly, it was painful to listen to that segment. She has no idea what the hell she's talking about.
