The lights are on
In a more serious podcast, we discuss some of the new contenders in the console market, plus talk about the reignited debate over game violence.
In the first segment, host Matt Helgeson is joined by Matt Bertz and Andy Reiner to talk about a new host of non-traditional consoles, including Ouya, the GameStick, Nvidia's Project Shield, and the Piston Steam Box. It's an interesting time for the industry, and the gang has a lot to say about the prospects of these consoles.
In the second segment, Reiner sticks around and Jeff Cork comes in the booth to record a serious discussion about the renewed furor of violent games which has happened in the wake of the horrible events that transpired at Sandy Hook Elementary, as well as Joe Biden's upcoming task force meetings with the NRA and representatives from the game industry, motion pictures, and television. [Note: We recorded this podcast before we received word from the ESA that its CEO Michael Gallagher would be attending Biden's meetings].

I actually like the thought over a serious discussion with you guys, especially if Reiner and Jeff are in it.
I think this is going to be the first time I'd skip a segment. I just don't think I could stand listening to most talk about the subject of the second part, but I'll try.
i love this show :3
Awesome topics with some of my favorite members of the GI family.
This is going to be a fun podcast.
Sweet.
Thought this week was going to be about the THQ bankruptcy. Still looks like it will be a good show as usual
I don't have time for a Serious discussion about violent games.....I have to go kill zombies on Dead Island, The Walking Dead, Left 4 Dead, and Dead Space.
I enjoy Jeff Cork's frankness (and sarcasm) in general and in the second half it really comes to its own. He brings up some great points and hypotheticals and Reiner and Matt make for good devil's advocate concerns.
Nice podcast guys, always a great listen.
By far the best game informer show to date
As a PC only gamer and a having the majority of my game library on Steam, I am very invested in the future and success of the Steam Box (or whatever it'll be called). That being said I really enjoyed the first half of the podcast because you guys gave me a new perspective on the product. Reiner also raised a very good point about games making the system not the hardware, which honestly hadn't occurred to me until he said it.
Also I'm very interested in the whole media/violence situation, and I would like to commend all 3 of you guys for not being completely biased or irrational about any of that subject. It would be so easy for you guys to go on a rant about video games being wrongly accused and that they aren't the problem, but instead you guys had a very intelligent and level-headed discussion about all of it. And Jeff had some really great points about maybe it is a time as a community and industry that we need to rethink our priorities in entertainment, with games, TV and movies. Overall this was one of my favorite podcasts I have ever listened to, you guys are awesome!
Haven't got to listen to it yet, but I hop nobody is calling the Piston the steambox. It's not. The GabeN even confirmed that www.escapistmagazine.com/.../121423-Gabe-Newell-Clarifies-That-Piston-Is-Not-the-Steam-Box
What I hope for that big meeting is this. I want the representative of the gaming industry to walk in and tell everyone to stop. For some reason the form of media/entertainment we're passionate about is tired of getting crap from everyone. Yes our industry has become too violent, but that doesn't give people the right to accuse us of causing these horrendous events. TV and movies are constantly making fun of video games which makes gamers look crazy sitting in their parents basement playing COD 24/7. Our industry deserves to be treated just like other industries and dumb flash games people make on the internet are not part of them. Whyis it that we can never seem to be respected by other industries the stereotypes are everyone is an overweight 35myear old that lives in his parents basement or (note this next part is coming from a teenager) some guy that sits around screaming profanities and the words "noob, gay, homosexual, and rape." Why are we less respected than everyone else and seem to take the blame for everything?
