GI Show 134: Hitman Absolution, Epic Mickey 2, Walking Dead Ep. 5

Enjoy a helping of the Game Informer Show for Thanksgiving, as we talk about a couple of big releases plus the conclusion of Telltale's The Walking Dead.

First up is Hitman: Absolution. Host Matt Helgeson is joined by "The Jeffs" -- Jeff Cork and Jeff Marchifava -- to discuss the new reboot of IO Interactive's long-running Hitman series. The Hitman games have always been long on depth and spotty on execution, but this latest is the best and most polished entry to date. It's also got some very interesting community creation features, which we discuss as well.

The second segment, which deals with Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and the handheld Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion, turns out a bit more contentious than we expected. Matt Miller is still a little miffed at how Epic Mickey 2 turned out, and Bryan Vore and Ben Hanson have some serious disagreements about the quality of Power of Illusion.

Finally, Jeff Cork returns with Ben Reeves in tow to ponder the epic finale of The Walking Dead. The fifth and final episode just released, it's a powerful conclusion to one of the year's most gripping gaming experiences.

  • Awesomesauce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A Podcast... On Thansgiving? OH JOY!

    EDIT: You misspelled "Marchiafava"

EDIT 2: The podcast ends halfway into the Epic Mikcey 2 talk.
  • The deluxe eagle was instrumental in the downfall of the Jim Crow laws due to his knowledge of the not so well known 4th Amendment to the Bird Constitution- the one that says non contributing members of bird society are not allowed to incriminate or discriminate against the less than intelligent seagulls.  Deluxe eagles also are guarding shoppers through the holiday season.

  • Very nice!

  • Funny, I wasn't looking forward to Hitman and I ended up wanting it after the Test Chamber, the sniper challenge TC, and this podcast and I was looking forward to Power of Illusion and am shaky about getting it now.

  • nice podcast

  • I actually liked Epic Mickey 2. I think it deserved a 7.75

  • I wouldn't call the latest the "best" (I'd say that for Blood Money), but it certainly looks the most polished. I do dislike the lack of real challenge in the kills and loadout options, but I guess at least there is a story reason for both (he isn't constantly going after near impossible targets, and he is always on the run without safehouse access).

  • is IO from sweden? NO Denmark..
  • I find it really interesting how well-received Hitman Absolution is on most game outlets, but PCGamer found it super disappointing. They compared it directly to Blood Money and found it lacking, with weird logic and less freedom and stupid, amateurish dialogue and storytelling. Meanwhile, all the predominantly console outlets (and Conan O'Brien) frickin' LOVE IT. Very, very weird. Guess Blood Money didn't make much of an impact on consoles... I looking forward to hearing a discussion on it. AND Epic Mickey, which - by all cases - seems to have disappointed people THREE TIMES NOW. With Power of Two, I figured game journalists' would hate on it just like the last game. It was pretty obvious that Junction Point was adding to it, instead of really fixing what was wrong. Also, they had to put on multiple consoles this time. But I'm unbelievable peeved at Dreamrift, who's such a great studio otherwise. But Power of Illusion hinges on a terrible, awful mechanic that just destroys the flow of the game. They shouldn't have been so married to the way they handle painting and thinning; it should've been axed MONTHS ago during production of the game. Epic Mickey should be better than this; these new games were supposed to right the wrongs of the first game! If anything, they took a step BACKWARDS! This will be an interesting podcast...
  • Hitman looks great! I can't wait to try it out.

  • Awesome.

  • i loved how blood money was done. Mission based seems to work really well with hitman. it will be interesting to see how this campaign plays out. I really hope its not super easy to finish "missions".

I loved the challenge of reallly finding a way to beat it by getting silent assassin only using your kit. If you can use a ton of stuff now in the environment to kill your targets.. i think it will be easier to get silent assassin to make it look like accident or something.

the social aspect might make things a bit harder, but a little worried about beating it in like a week.

    rental then? ... :/
  • Alright, I'm sold on Hitman. I've never even heard of it till I saw that cinematic trailer of the nuns. Can't wait to play it!

  • hitman is awesome one of the best stealth games ive ever played.the hit the nail on the head with absolution. and the contracts mode is sweet. and the walking dead game is great making those tough decisions can really make you think back if you made the right choice.

  • IO is from Denmark.

  • Ugh. Who there can't pronounce, "Luchador"? Every time I heard, "Luke-a-door", a little bit of me died on the inside. Thanks a lot... I'm going to blame Jeff Cork? What the heck man. Luchador. "LOOCH".

It's always troubling whenever people whose job it is to write about things can't seem to read ;)
