GI Show 123: MGS: Ground Zeroes, Corey May of Assassin's Creed 3

On this episode, we discuss Kojima's new chapter in the Metal Gear Solid saga and speak with the lead writer of Assassin's Creed 3.

Ground Zeroes is first, with Metal Gear experts Kyle Hilliard, Joe Juba, Dan Ryckert, and Ben Hanson joining host Matt Helgeson to separate fact from fiction regarding the new trailer. We also engage in some high-level geekery and come away impressed by Juba's exhaustive knowledge of MGS lore.

In the second segment, we're joined by a special guest, Corey May of Ubisoft. Corey has been the lead writer for Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, and Assassin's Creed III. Matt Bertz, Matt Helgeson, and Andy McNamara pick his brain about his work on AC, as well as his views on the game industry as a whole.

  • Show 123 yeahhh can't wait ground zeroes looks awesome however I do wish they would let Kojima make a new series however I cannot wait for ground zeroes that trailer looked gorgeous
  • OH YEAH!

  • Just for the record, "Here's to You" was originally chosen as the ending theme to MGS4 because one of Kojima's first ideas for its ending was to have Snake and Otacon turn themselves in over accusations of war crimes. They'd then be unfairly executed for those crimes. So it'd match up with the lyrics to Here's to You, which was about two people that were unfairly executed.

  • Corey may AND Metal Gear talk? Nice! I've had a crappy day and this cheers me right up! :)

Also Corey if you're reading this could you maybe think about adding Martial arts to the combat in future AC titles? Think Sleeping dogs with slicker animations and fluid control.
  • Andy McNamara's on a podcast! Haha I know he was on the "co-op games" one but he's not on many. I love when he's on.

  • Yes. More on Assassin's Creed 3.

  • I can't wait to hear the super-geeky Metal Gear talk. ^_^
The burned guy in the trailer really reminds me of Goda from Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C.
  • Yay! I love the writing of the AC games, so that segment should be interesting.

  • Corey may f*** yeah

  • They've forgotten to mention that in Peacewalker you can Research and Design a blanket that turns you invisible and a Railgun so a hologram  thingy that took off the letters isn't that crazy.

  • Nice, best show to date.

  • Dev
My name is Corey not Cory. :( And please unban Ponstory.
  • I enjoyed the Metal Gear speculation, and i seriously need to get caught up on the narrative. The only games in the series that I've finished are Metal Gear Solid and MGS 4. I'd really like to get more familiar with Big Boss, sooo MGS3 seems like the next logical step.
  • The writer interviews are always great.. And MGS Ground Zeroes is going to be rad. Maybe a ground Zero in physical space and also the point in time at which ZERO (the character) becomes an enemy. Ground zero in Snakes sad heart.
  • The discussion with Corey May was very interesting, he's a bad ass.

  • Can I suggest something as far as the XOF thing goes? Basically, what if those are actually supposed to be let's say.. American flags? (Just a suggestion) Since the thing is showing off the Fox engine.. why not show it's capability to reverse or replace images? I mean, a simple swap could change those patches and the XOF on the helicopter to something else.
