Special Edition Podcast: Dishonored

The co-creative directors of Arkane Studios' upcoming stealth/assassin game Dishonored, Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio, were kind enough to join us on the Game Informer Show this week to answer the community's questions about the game. Listen in to get firsthand explanations about Dishonored's weapons, its enigmatic protagonist, and what it's like to work with Bethesda.

Make sure to pay attention at the 37-minute mark to get an interesting tidbit that even we hadn't heard before.

  • Sweet! Been looking forward to learning more in depth on how progression works.

I have to say this podcast got me more interested than the article. I understand better the player choices and freedom in how you decide to tackle each situation.

I'll have to get back to you on that boy/girl confusion.
  • I'm all ears...
  • -crosses fingers in hopes to hear my question-
  • Man, if only I was in the US. I missed the cover story and this game sounds pretty amazing, GI rarely does me wrong with a cover story, and even if said cover game is subpar (like Alpha Protocol), I still usually enjoy it for the mentioned features.
  • Can't wait to see if mine is here. Not that it matters, this game just seems really too cool.
EDIT: Answered! An early on to boot! The Rat-Timestop-Trap-Possess is going to be my calling card in Dishonored now. Thanks guys!
    PS: Yeah, Matt, it's unlikely.
  • he did not just dis the gameinformer show!
  • Really looking forward to Dishonored. It seem like it has some real potential. As for tactics, i'll stick to the shadows.

  • To me this game has potential on it but I feel the final product will recieve a 8 from GI but the sequel will fix almost every mistake
  • awesome can't wait to see some gameplay footage

  • There's about a half hour of non-existent content. Other than that, awesome podcast.

  • Great podcast guys! I really couldn't be more excited for Dishonored. From the world to the mechanics everything sounds amazing.

  • I have a real problem with developers mentioning DLC while talking about a game that is a year or two away from coming out.
  • I had an interesting idea concerning the feedback for when you are and aren't "stealthed", considering you are supposed to be supernatural why not have it show on your skin? I noticed up there that your hand looks just like a normal hand and I assume that's how you look throughout the game. But since you're supernatural, why not look something like a shade from Dungeons and Dragons? There's a good example picture in the 4.0 essentials heroes of shadow book of the look i'm talking about. Whenever you're stealthed your hand visibly turns into a shadow form and then whenever you're spotted you can see that your hand looks normal again. I thought it might be a cool idea to have in there, but I'm sure they already have something figured out.

Game sounds awesome, I want to do the same rat trick kind of thing except with a fish!

  • Hopefully they have my question in here, but either way still good to learn more about this game.

  • Yes! I'll have to make sure to listen to this later

EDIT: Sweet, thanks for asking my question; took a while to actually get to the answer though =P
  • Great Podcast. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about Dishonored.

  • I'm not that interested anymore. I'm sure it will be cool, but I need things like open worlds, experience, and new game+ to really feel like a game is worth the time. Plus, they both seemed a bit frustrated at certain points, and criticized the show a bit, which I didn't like.
  • Interesting. I won't lie, I'm not a fan of the silent protagonist choice they've taken, but that's really my only complaint. I love the fact that their relationship with Bethesda is so great, and I also love how dedicated they are to making sure that the game is playable no matter what progression options you take.
  • This was a extremely informative podcast and thank you for asking my question Gameinformer!

  • What's with the 20 minutes of silence at the end? I was waiting for some kind of secret track to start playing..

It looks like it has potential with the "simulation" system they have set up, so NPCs go about their own business and react to things. It seems like there are elements of the Thief series in the gameplay, which would be cool. Will have to wait for judgement until actual gameplay footage is shown.
