Special Edition Podcast: Darksiders II

It's been a long and exciting month full of online features to go along with our Darksiders II cover story. To wrap up all of this coverage, we invited the game's producer, Ryan Steffanelli, and its creative director, David Adams, onto our podcast to discuss the origins of the franchise, the changes in the sequel, what's up with the other two Horsemen, and more.

Listen to the full show below, and then return to the site tomorrow for one final Darksiders II bonus feature before we move on to our next cover story.

Technical note: As with most phone interviews, please note that the guys calling in from Vigil will sound a bit quiet. Nothing a quick bump to your volume button can't fix, but watch out for the music bumpers at the beginning and end of the show. Your ears have officially been warned!

  • Another podcast? HOLY HELL!

  • Ah crap, theres only one more thing left? Im gonna miss the cover.

Excited about the sidequests, hidden loot and more lore in the game tho!

  • He'll yah love dark siders. It's the xbox owners Zelda/ God of war

  • it may be 136.5% cooler than the previous game, but 44.6% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

    EDIT: My bad, it's 35.7%

    EDIT: No, 56.4%
  • HECKA! I'm listening to this right now! Game Informer's cover story for Darksiders II got me interested in the franchise. I just bought Darksiders last week, and I REALLY like it so far! :)

  • So, I've got this on my iPod right now and the podcast ends around 21 min. right in the middle of Ben's sentence. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Death seems like the perfect character for the next installment

  • I'll be honest, I got stuck in the "Puzzle Castle" with the angel guy, the enemies were too strong at the end for my underpowered War, so I quit. The story was pretty cool though, and though the combat was kind of crappy for me, and some of the puzzles felt underwelming, the art design and everything was undeniably cool. They need to tidy up the combat mostly, and maybe later have a co-op of some kind.
  • That was good i would like for there to have been more. I would like to Know when the darksiders website will be open, and what will be on there.

  • Sorry, what's the point of those 3 minute long intro and outro music?
  • interesting.  I love Zelda games but haven't played this yet.  I might actually pick this up now.

  • ahh man, I was loving seeing all of the art and development! Do it with more games!!

  • Podcast are cool :)

  • I cant wait for this game its gonna be f***in awesome

  • Darksiders 2 is sounding pretty *** awesome :) I never played the first, but I love the concept (I have an obsession with all things apocalyptic), and I definitely watched my fair share of youtube videos. The stuff they're implementing in the next game makes it sound really great. Kinda like Darksiders on steroids. Or prozac? I don't know. Regardless, it sounds like the game is really coming along. I can't wait!

  • Do we get to see more wit samael like we did in the first one?

  • I think it's funny that Joe Mad's first drawings seem to be universally agreed upon as being the best. That must cut development time down nicely when the team's coming up with new enemies, environments, etc.

  • Can't wait for this game. Need to play Darksiders 1 now to stop the itching in my fingers.

  • I didn't have a problem with the large dungeons, though they might not have been apt for War's character.  Death however should be breaking into every dungeon in the underworld :)

  • I can't wait for this game! Sounds like it's going to be great! These guys seem to have a great personality! Excited for Darksiders 3 and 2 is out yet!
