Special Edition Podcast: Todd Howard Skyrim Q&A

Game Informer's web coverage of our The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim cover story has proven to be popular with Bethesda's legion of devoted RPG fans. Today, we're pleased to present a special edition of the Game Informer Show, in which Bethesda's Todd Howard answers questions we solicited from our community of online users. It's nearly an hour of freewheeling discussion, we put your queries to Howard, who gives some revealing responses -- while still leaving more than a bit of mystery surrounding the game. Some of the topics covered include the game's combat system, spells, factions, and the powerful dragons that reign terror over the world of Skyrim.

Note: We thank all our readers who submitted questions. We received an unprecedented number of responses, and as a result, it was simply impossible to have Todd answer more than a fraction of the submissions. In hopes of covering as many readers as possible, we tried to concentrate on questions that were asked many times over by multiple readers. Still, if your question was not answered, we apologize.

  • did anybody else loop the intro music while playing oblivion?
  • Bioshocker. haha that's awesome. Can't wait to see some gameplay footage. Hopefully with some dragon in it. They sound epic as hell.

  • Great feature. I'm glad he was able to at least answer some of the questions. I know last I checked there were around 1000 responses on that article which is crazy.

  • Great podcast, loved hearing about the information. Even though a lot of it was info we had already heard or read, hearing it from Todd with his rationale, made it that much more palpable.

    November can't come soon enough.

  • Thanks for the answers! :)

  • Ok you can break to that intro there ..... epic

But people 90% of the questions answered have already been answered, so why waste our smart peoples time. So I ask for a re do of actual not yet answered questions. I mean dragons are Ofcourse going to be the toughest things to fight! I'm just disappointed in yall....

Also what happened to the woman pic? Why the guy again?
  • this is amazing, thanks GI.

  • i think they did an excellent job in this cast nicework gi team and thanks so much Commander Howard

  • So they're doing the opposite of companions with depth and character? Thats a horrible idea.

And thank you for all the details Mr. Todd Howard thank you greatly ^^!

  • good podcast

  • my anticipations just went up...

  • Geeez I want to hear the composers other stuff. I have not heard  such a powerful arrangement in a long time.

  • Great podcast! Thanks to everyone involved for setting it up. I figured he wasn't quite ready to answer some of the questions, but I'm still extremely excited for November

  • Darn I feel I've gotten quite attached to that girl on the podcast-picture after looking at her for one hour... haha.

Thanks Bethesda for making Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls - the best RPG-series in the world.

I did hope for spears though... It's not essential to the game, of course, but it does add a new feeling to the combat, more diversity and new ways of attacking and defending.
I'm also really hoping for mounts (horses). I hope you'll be able to pull them off in a great way. They do add a nice feeling to the game, that I'd otherwise miss a bit, I think.

Once again, thanks Bethesda (and Todd! :D), and thanks Game Informer for writing all these nice articles.

Skyrim is definitely going to be a Game of the Year!
