The lights are on
This week, since it's pretty much the only game that anyone in the world is playing right now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 takes center stage in the Game Informer Show. Instead of our usual multi-game format, we decided to keep the show frosty and focused on what's likely to be the year's best-selling title. In segment one, Matt Helgeson, Jeff Cork, Matt Bertz, and Adam Biessener delve into the game's single-player component, handing out kudos and a few nagging complaints. The crew also discusses how effective and necessary the game's most controversial level is in the context of the whole. For part two, it's multiplayer madness with Andy Reiner, Matt Bertz, and Adam. From the awesome new perks to the intricately designed levels, this game's multiplayer has enough content to keep us playing for months. In addition, we examine the new co-op Spec Ops mode, which is already earning raves from the staff. This episode features music from the U.K. world music label Soundway Records.

sweet i got something to listen to for work tonight, thanks guys
I agree, Favela on hardened was ***.
you guys missed a huge point on the airport scene. if you desire to opt out of PLAYING the scene, you're instead treated to a cutscene briefing you on what happened in the level.
you don't lose any story, whether or not you chose to play the scene.
I'm definably going to listen to this podcast and listen to what you guys think.
Well that was avery intriguing podcast now wasnt it?
I rightfully disagree. I am playing Borderlands, and refuse to play MW2 yet.
I agreed to pretty much everything you guys discussed. Awesome podcast.
I have to say, I absolutely have loved the podcasts- definitely an awesome addition for GI, and I'm looking forward to listening to this one. Keep it up, guys!
Uncharted 2 still my personal GOTY.
Thank you Lambrick. I did not know that and was wondering if or how they would go about cutting that out. Thanks.
This podcast was nice too. I don't feel like I learned alot, but I enjoyed listening having played it and hearing your opinions on it.
I've been really loving the podcast, I actually wish that it started longer ago so that I could spend my days at work listening to hours upon hours about video games.
My only problem with this episode is that it is all about CoD4:MW2. I was hoping to hear more about Borderlands DLC, or how about how Microsoft is banning up to 1,000,000. I think that there's a lot to talk about this week, and I had only hoped to hear more about the other things that happened this week. Other than that, I really love the podcast, and you're all doing an awesome job.
Matt Helgeson, You rock, and I only aspire I could someday be like you. I've been wanting to get into a writing or radio job like this for a number of years, and I've got a lot to say about video games.
Best of Luck and I only expect to hear more great things from you.
Thank You so very much.
Sincerely, Korey Eiche
The maps suck total ass in MW 2 - extremely disappointed. They are well designed however the maps are all incredibly camper friendly, roughly only 2 maps even allow sniper use. One would think Infinity Ward sucks at there own game - As Bungie did. Sorry if I'm insulting the GI staff but are you guys only playing against each other? Because these maps are f'n camping EVERYWHERE. MW maps were far better... not to mention they left the noob tube in, its really sad... Also (I'm sure you guys have already realized you once interviewed a cheater - I Am Godly i think his name was) cheaters are just as abundant as usual - currently theres like 20 Mafia w/e bitches in the top 100 leaderboards. Sorry, not mathematically possibly for 1 million score in a day.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy many of the additions in the game but they completely ruined the game for my type of gamer - run and gun. I get bored as hell waiting for little kids to walk by so I can knife them - essentially what all the maps want you to do w/. the many multi tiered windows and rooftop - often resulting is massive camping.
@korey - thx!
I sort of got mentioned on the podcast! I think I'm that mysterious user who posted the comment on the airport scene. Hooray! :D
I also really loved the intro and break music in this 'cast. Pretty kickin'. Great job.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislikes the plot.
I haven't played Modern Warfare 2 yet, however I somehow doubt that the airport terrorist scene will impact me that much, largely because I'm no stranger to killing or harming innocent bystanders in video games. The God of War series comes to mind. Not only do you kill innocent civilians, you even get health orbs from their bodies. Grand Theft Auto and InFamous also come to mind.
Where's the shock factor in killing a bunch of civilians when we've already done it countless times in other games? Does the first person perspective really make it that much more shocking?
@LittleBigEthan - yes that was you! sorry i just thought of that right when i said it, and i couldn't remember who had said it, but yeah i thought it was a great point
also @korey - because of some scheduling stuff with people here being on trips and really busy, etc...we were actually taping some of the stuff right as that xbox banning console thing was breaking....
this is more a question to all of you:
so far i've been keeping this pretty game focused, but would you guys like to hear more segments on more "industry" type news stuff? i've sort of avoided it so far, because i guess i felt like people really want to know about the games themselves, but if people are interested we can definitely try to work in more industry/new/analysis stuff in the future....
@ Matt Helgeson
I wouldn't mind a segment that discussed the industry/news/analysis, I find that stuff to be interesting and I'm curious about the GI staff's take on things that are happening in the gaming universe beyond the games themselves.
Now when a big title comes out (like this past week), I would expect said game to take the spotlight, but it would be nice to hear about something other than just that one game in the podcast.
cool thx for the feedback...yeah one-game shows won't be the norm, but we thought this was was big enough to justify it...and also, there's always sorta "behind the scenes" issues like a lot of people in the office being on trips and out of the office, etc that affect what we can do in a given week...but it's a work in progress so appreciate all the comments.
yep, industry discussions would be nice
