Mafia III Developer Opens Up UK Studio

by Matthew Kato on May 15, 2018 at 09:18 AM

Mafia III developers Hangar 13 – an internal developer of 2K – are opening an expansion studio in Brighton, England to go along with existing locations in Novato, CA and Prague, Czech Republic.

The studio's general manager is Nick Baynes, gamer director for Split/Second at the now-defunct Black Rock Studio.

Baynes is currently building out the Brighton team, who will work with the other Hangar 13 teams "across all aspects of development on all future Hangar 13 projects."

Hangar 13 is currently working on a unannounced project, but it's unknown at this time if the Brighton branch will be up and running in time to assist in its development.

Back in February the developer laid off a "significant number" of staff, and in April it was reported that "next door" to Hangar 13 a 2K Studio is working on the next BioShock game.

Our Take
I'm less interested in whether this new UK studio helps with some existing Hangar 13 project versus whether each branch will get the chance to bring forth their own ideas and create their own identities.
