Grand Theft Auto 4 Removing And Replacing Some Licensed Music

by Imran Khan on Apr 10, 2018 at 08:56 PM

Grand Theft Auto 4 is going to have some of its radio tunes go away later this month.

On April 26, a number of ten year licenses for Grand Theft Auto 4's radio will expire. Much like what happened with San Andreas, this forces Rockstar to remove and replace music from the game if they want to continue to sell it. USGamer got a statement from Rockstar about what's happening with the old music.

"Due to music licensing restrictions," Rockstar told USGamer, "we are required to remove certain songs from the in-game soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto IV and its Episodes, in particular a large portion of the Russian pop station, Vladivostok FM. However we are replacing some of those songs with a new set of songs on that station. We will update our customer support website with new information as soon as it is available."

April 29 marks the ten year anniversary of the game, indicating that the licenses themselves were only designed to last as long. It is expected the songs will be replaced around that date.

Our Take
Shame it's the station I listened to the most that's getting changed. On the other hand, I discovered some cool music from that station the first time, maybe if I play the game again the new replaced songs will introduce me to more cool music.
