Resident Evil 7 Has Sold More Than 5 Million Copies
Capcom announced recently that Resident Evil 7 has reached a new sales milestone: it has sold 5.1 million copies worldwide since its release in January 2017.
These sales reflect number of copies sold on all platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The news was shared in a press release that led with how Resident Evil 7 won best VR audio at the 2018 Game Audio Network Guild awards. While these sales are a significant milestone, it's worth noting that Resident Evil 7 has not yet outperformed the success of its predecessors in the series.
Late last year, Resident Evil 7 won best VR/AR title at The Game Awards. You can read about how associate editor Javy Gwaltney believes that Resident Evil 7 does a fantastic job of reinventing the series by heading here.

Our Take
Resident Evil 7 was one of my favorite games of 2017. This is a big milestone, and 5 million isn't a number to scoff at. Though, comparatively, Capcom's Monster Hunter: World sold over 7.5 million units in just a few months since launch. I'm disappointed that RE7 hasn't sold better, but perhaps it got lost in the shuffle of an incredibly successful year for video games.
