Monster Hunter World Ships Six Million Copies, Fastest Selling Capcom Game Ever

by Imran Khan on Feb 09, 2018 at 03:05 PM

Monster Hunter World is doing remarkably well in terms of shipment numbers, but Capcom has recently announced it hit the milestone of six million units shipped, making it a record-breaking title for Capcom.

The distinction between shipped and sold can be important here. From Capcom's perspective, they have sold six million copies, because those units were sold to retailers, who potentially in turn sell them to consumers. So in that respect, they can say that Monster Hunter World is the fastest selling game in the company's history.

That said, retailers would not order six million copies if the game weren't selling quickly, so the sold-to-consumers number is likely not far off.

Monster Hunter World released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in late January. A PC version is planned for Autumn this year. You can read our review of it here.

Our Take
High sales for this game are well deserved, so I imagine Capcom is breathing a sigh of relief. It likely encourages them to experiment with other titles and try to maintain the core essence while adjusting the periphery.
